Speedy deletion of new articles

[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. –Be..anyone (talk) 00:33, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please read and fully understand the following pages before you do any more oage patrolling:

Do bear in mind that with only 500 or so edits to mainspace, NPP is not a task for new users. Nor is vandal patrol, but if you have 200 edits to mainspace you can enrol at the WP:CVUA to learn all about it and help the encyclopedia to keep rubbish edits out of it. Thanks. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:25, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information Kudpung. Be..anyone I believe has not assumed good faith as I got his and another, very polite, message at the same time. His message seemed very aggressive for a first time. TheMagikCow (talk) 08:28, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

May I please ask why you posted here and said that we would take no further action against this user at this time? Edits like this and this are not classed as a false positive to ClueBot NG because they are blatant vandalism. The fact that they've made another 5 edits along the same lines indicates that this is nothing but a vandalism-only account. I'm confused by your decision--5 albert square (talk) 18:45, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comment. The edit I was referring to that was reported was this one. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ferrero_Rocher&diff=prev&oldid=647261399 However, I totally accept that that account is totally a vandalism only account and should be banned, as he is suitably warned. Thank you for your feedback. TheMagikCow (talk) 19:06, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks for the explanation. For what it's worth, it looks as if they may have been telling the truth about that edit. However, the edit is still correctly reverted, firstly because it has no reliable source and secondly because it really belongs in the creator's article not the chocolate sweet page :)--5 albert square (talk) 19:31, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AIV

[edit]

Hi MagikCow. It's great that you are helping out, but please be aware that only Admins should close reports at WP:AIV, this is not appropriate, particularly considering it was a clear case where a block was required--Jac16888 Talk 21:26, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that feedback. I apologise for closing discussions but I was told by an admin on the talk page of AIV that using the nac template it is ok to close discussions. Please can I have advice on weather this is ok or not. Again, sorry for my mistake. TheMagikCow (talk) 21:34, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In the above case you didn't use that template. I would advise you to make comments but not to actually close reports with templates, perhaps when you have more experience but at this time I don't believe that is the case--Jac16888 Talk 21:42, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This was incorrectly closed. Please do not close anymore reports at WP:AIV--Jac16888 Talk 11:10, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You have again closed reports without the {{nac}} template [1][2]. Frankly I'm not fond of any non-admins closing reports other than a simple comment, but if you do, please use the nac template as otherwise you may be giving a false impression that you are an administrator, which is not okay. Thanks MusikAnimal talk 23:14, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Since you have been told about this repeatedly I am going to go one step further than MusikAnimal. You do not have the experience to be closing reports at AIV, as shown by the fact you are closing them incorrectly, as well as failing to use a NAC tag. Consider this a formal warning, you are not to close a report at AIV again, with or without a NAC tag--Jac16888Talk 18:34, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
For how long?TheMagikCow (talk) 16:17, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Undetermined. Non-admin closes are not something that should be commonly done. They are to be used only in the most obvious and clear-cut of circumstances (just as with AFDs), they are not an opportunity to practice being an admin--Jac16888 Talk 16:43, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Church of Google

[edit]

Hello TheMagikCow. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Church of Google".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Church of Google}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 02:11, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Now, how is it not constructive to clarify that it is common for Scandinavian salt liquorice to use salmiak as a significant ingredient? Hi,

You nominated Anthony Watson (executive) at AfD when it had only just been created, with the comment "is this person Notable?". If you look at the article now, I think it's pretty clear that he is.

To avoid going through the full AfD process, would you be willing to withdraw the nomination, on the grounds that it's very unlikely to succeed?

I'm particularly interested in this because I'd like to contact the subject and/or his employer to ask for a photograph with a suitable license to include in Wikipedia, but I don't want to do that while there's a big template at the top of the article warning it may be imminently deleted.

Thanks!

Your GA nomination of Shetland (cattle)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Shetland (cattle) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Hi,

I have been looking over this article, and to get directly to the point, the chances of the article passing a GAN are virtually nonexistent at this point. There are large swaths of unsourced content, and many of the references are incorrectly formatted. I recommend that you either withdraw the nomination or quickly correct the issues I just mentioned. I'll try to make as many improvements as I can. Thanks, --Biblioworm 21:04, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I've copy edited the article, and will now attempt to make improvements to the references. I added a few {{cn}} tags to alert you to paragraphs where citations need to be added. After all that is done, I think there is a better chance of the article passing GAN. Thanks, --Biblioworm 15:16, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! TheMagikCow (talk) 15:25, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have just unfortunately discovered that the article is practically a blatant copy-paste from this page. A article with such a substantial copyvio problem has no chance of becoming a good article, so a complete rewrite is necessary before a promotion to GA is possible. --Biblioworm 20:08, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Donkey

[edit]

Hey MagikCow, no way is Donkey ready for GAN, it's a mess and while your adding cites is much appreciated, it it the tip of the iceberg. The article is disorganized, there has been no peer review and it's a vital article so needs to be top notch. Compare to GA-class horse. If you want to collaborate on this and get it up to speed, I'd be glad to help, but it's nowhere NEAR ready for GA now. Montanabw(talk) 23:50, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shetland Sheepdog

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you recently edited Shetland Sheepdog; in this edit, using the edit summary of 'formal name', you changed it to 'Shetland'. It should either read 'Sheltie' which is a very commonly used name or 'Shetland Sheepdog' - it is never referred to as a Shetland and is incorrect to do so. SagaciousPhil - Chat 16:50, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Shetland is an abbreviation of the shetland sheepdog and is commonly used. As en example, look at Highland cattle which recently passed GA and uses this. Using a nickname for a name IMHO is not suitable for Wikipedia. TheMagikCow (talk) 17:18, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is never referred to simply as Shetland - it may be done in agricultural breeds but with this breed, it is not done within canine publications or canine circles. By all means use "Shetland Sheepdog" throughout but not abbreviated to Shetland. SagaciousPhil - Chat 17:24, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have looked at your recent GA for Highland Cattle as you suggested but fail to see why you feel the comparison is relevant. Please indicate where you are finding "Shetland" used as "an abbreviation of the shetland sheepdog and is commonly used". SagaciousPhil - Chat 21:48, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I must agree with Sagaciousphil on this one. "Shetland ponies are sometimes called "Shetlands" (and, frequently, a host of less-flattering names not relevant here) but not the dogs, I've always heard "Sheltie" or "Shetland Sheepdog." That's it. Montanabw(talk) 23:00, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Shetland heifer.jpg

[edit]

I gather that you nominated this image for deletion as a copyright violation, being the same image used on the Shetland Cattle Breeders Association (SCBA) site. I just wanted to assure you that it wasn't a violation. I took the photograph myself, being the owner of the heifer in question. The image is indeed the same as the one on the SCBA site, since I am also the creator and maintainer of the SCBA web site. — Boxersoft (talk) 16:26, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok all noted! thanks for that info. Could you put that on the image page to prevent that from happening in the future? Thanks! TheMagikCow (talk) 16:45, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The image was declared as my copyright and original work. I subsequently posted a version of the same image it on another site and it never occurred to me that I should revisit the upload to Wiki and annotate it to reaffirm my ownership. It has also been used on a cattle breeder's site, at least two news sites, and one or two others that I have noticed. I have not been notified of any of these uses and (despite the Attribution licensing) they have not been attributed. Any one of those could have been assumed to be the "legitimate original". — Boxersoft (talk) 18:52, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I am new to editing wikipedia, though I read it daily, and come across all kinds of strange anomolies. I think that you may have made a typo in this article. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ayrshire_cattle&action=history I corrected it, I think. I know nothing about cows, but the year 17175 is impossible, the only year after the year 1750 (mentioned just above this sentence) that made sence was 1775. Correct it if my guess was wrong. You seem to know a lot about sheep, after reading your history, so my second guess about vandalism, is obviously wrong. a simple typo then. :)

2015 Thalys train attack There is a passenger list. It has changed many times. Sometimes it is about the people who subdued the gunman. Other times it was the injured passengers. Still other times, the involved passengers. The list, no matter how it is phrased is quite short.

There is an effort to hide the name of one passenger, Anglade, who is very well cited in many reports. All news reports mention Stone. Many mention Skarlatos. The third most cited is Anglade. Granted, he did not shoot the attacker but is mentioned many times in many sources and was injured. Incidentally, sources also mention that Anglade starred in the French film (was the lead actor) "The Wounded Man". Some editors do not want this even though this was one of the actors most cited work (probably his 3rd most famous film).

Wikipedia should not hide stuff.

I am mindful of consensus but there is no consensus here. Some editors are busy and have chimed in only once or twice (in my favor), such as Green Cardamom and Tough Sailor. However, correctness has a value, not only consensus. There is a consensus in eastern Syria to behead Americans and Europeans but that doesn't make it right. There is also a consensus for the election which elected Hitler and Kim Jong Un. Sandra opposed to terrorism (talk) 19:39, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am willing to be flexible. Have a list of injured and separate list of others. Have a list of those who won medals and others. Many possibilities. Sandra opposed to terrorism (talk) 19:41, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On mobile until tomorrow. Could you list this at WP:DRN as the proper place. You may also want to read WP:CONSENSUS and WP:NOTCENSORED. I don't want my talk becoming a forum, but if you can't work it out, I could file it for you. Again, I will look into it further tomorrow ASAP. Thanks anyway for this Sandra opposed to terrorism TheMagikCow (talk) 20:00, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response. I have asked 3 people from the dispute list but you are the only one to have replied. Wikipedia is very complex so it will take time and effort to figure out how to list things in the DRN board. I am not hopeful that one user will participate because he/she removed my notice to them that I asked for help.
I am willing to wait for you. Thank you again for your help. Sandra opposed to terrorism (talk) 20:03, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox: draft statement (written in a neutral manner) 2015 Thalys train attack This article is about a gunman on a train in or near Belgium and France who was disarmed by fellow passengers. During the past several days, there has been a lot of editing of the passenger list.

Variations of the passenger list have included, but is not limited to, a list of injured passengers, passengers who were awarded a Legion of Honour and involved passengers who were not, passengers cited by the press (different terminology used). The number of passengers listed have been no more than 8 so it is not a long list.

There appears to be a dispute on what are the requirements to be on that list.

Hi,

Your GA review of Oxford Circus tube station seems to have been done in a bit of a hurry. There were no comments made and you didn't, for example, mention that there is a broken reference (31, which points to the wrong edition of the Day and Reed book). Would you have another look please.--DavidCane (talk) 13:04, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK having a look now. Checklinks showed no issues. TheMagikCow (talk) 13:06, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@DavidCane: Could you point out any issues as I have now added comment sand can see none. TheMagikCow (talk) 13:25, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Boreray sheep

[edit]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Boreray sheep you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Hi (less robotically). I've reviewed the article and found that while it's nearly ready, a few points need to be clarified to bring it to GA. I don't think it should take much work to sort out, and I've suggested one or two more sources that might be useful. With best wishes, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:49, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok then! Thanks for the revues, much appreciated. Will get into these tonight when I'm off mobile. TheMagikCow (talk) 11:12, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for progress. Two things to note: you've said "done" for some items which weren't; and you're still adding refs with empty parameters, which we'll now have to remove (unless we actually want the missing bits, such as Publishers, which are generally required). Also, I prefer to format refs spaced like this: " end of last item | nextparameter=value " rather than "end|nextparameter = value" - this isn't critical but it makes things easier to check, so it leads to better quality. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:44, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK then, all noted. Thanks for the feedback. I tend to use VE to make thing quick and easy, but will use manual templates for this as it seems a problem with VE that is the issue. I apologize for the incorrect use of the done tampleates. TheMagikCow (talk) 12:46, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. In that case, it looks as if VE is only marginally suited for serious editing. I tried an early version of it and was instantly put off for life, but no doubt it's more convenient now and a blessing for many editors. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:55, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
