It may take me awhile to get back to you. If the bot has made a mistake, I will try to fix it in a timely manner. Porting from python to java is underway. Watchlists will be updated semi-regularly for all all projects which list tagged articles. Scanning categories is not implemented yet. Sorry for the inconvenience

Two projects could use this bot's help

[edit]

WP:CMC and WP:PGH could both really use this bot's help; tell me what I need to do to. Thanks, Chris Griswold () 17:12, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've been on wikibreak. If/when I come back, I'll post on your talk page. Ingrid 00:05, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ossum. Thanks. --Chris Griswold () 00:48, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

[edit]

I object strongly to bot-added templates -- especially HUGE bot-added templates that fill the first screen of any talk page and make readers scroll to read anything but template. Bot-adding ends in strangenesses like claiming various Persian shahs for India. Please stop that dang Hawai'i template campaign. Zora 00:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry you feel that way. My bot received approval to do what it's doing now. I have received many appreciative comments about it. If you do not like the Hawaii template, I suggest you talk to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Hawaii about it. I have nothing to do with that. If you have a problem with any specific article that my bot has tagged, I will look into it. If I can't tell if it should be tagged, I will consult with the project. Ingrid 01:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted an edit of this bot.

[edit]

Specifically this one. It looked TOTALLY out of place. Please revert me if this was a correct edit. I'd like an explanation, however, so I can not make such errors in the future. Thanx. 68.39.174.238 07:05, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That page is in Category:Currency copyright tags and is used to mark Polish currency images. The bot tags all articles in any tagged category. So, it does sometimes make mistakes, but I think this one belongs (and I'll put a note on the talk page explaining why). Ingrid 15:18, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of C. M. Newton to WikiProject Baseball

[edit]

Not sure why this bot may have added C. M. Newton to WikiProject Baseball. Newton has made significant contributions to the game of basketball, but to my knowledge, made few if any to baseball. Acdixon 17:38, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed why. Newton did play baseball at the University of Kentucky, but I doubt WikiProject Baseball cares much about that. I'll remove the template. Acdixon 17:41, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey,

You added the WikiProject:Baseball template to Talk:Doug Harvey (a hockey player) but I think you meant to add it to Talk:Doug Harvey (umpire). I reverted it once, only to have it added back, which is the only reason I felt I should bring it to your attention. Thanks for looking into it. --SuperNova |T|C| 05:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This one is weird -- thanks for pointing it out. Turns out there are lots of different teams called the Buffalo Bisons. The category was supposed to be just baseball, but had football and hockey players in it too. I think the situation has been fixed now. Thanks for pointing it out. Ingrid 02:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mario on WP Baseball

[edit]

Is there a reason why Mario was added to the Baseball WikiProject? Sure he was in one baseball video game, but I'm not sure if that's good enough. Just pointing it out though, probably up to the discration of the project though.--Wizardman 06:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It has now done this three times; please reign in your bot. --Golbez 06:56, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry. I made a mistake in not checking my messages here before running the bot, which I normally do. As soon as I saw the message, I fixed the problem. I removed the reference the last time it was added, and put Mario in the bot's exclusion list so it will not be added again. Ingrid 02:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not only Mario, but also Princess Peach. I think you need a major re-work on your codings for WikiProject baseball. OhanaUnited 06:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot reverting changes.

[edit]

Your bot is continuing to add a baseball tag to the article All_Along_The_Watchtower. Please desist unless you can add a reason in the discussion page. I would suggest that you stop your bot as it is it seems to be rather human unfreindly. Thank you. Candy

Your Bot continues to place the tag on the page. I have no alternative but to proceed to make a complaint as you have not responded to my statement above yet continue to keep your bot active. Candy 06:02, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This issue has also been addressed. Again, I messed up by not checking messages here before I ran the bot. As soon as I checked the messages, I fixed this problem by adding All Along the Watchtower to the exclusion list. Although in this case, it was caused by a bogus baseball category on the article itself, which Candy had already fixed. Ingrid 02:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request

[edit]

I've seen the watchlist for WikiProject LGBT studies, and it would be really great if the WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area had one as well. I was wondering if your bot would possibly do that. Thanks! — Emiellaiendiay 20:46, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be wonderful if you could make a watchlist for WikiProject Africa as well. In this case, would you mind also using your bot to tag items for the project? The tag is {{AfricaProject|class=}} and some relevant categories are listed on the project page. Much thanks! — Emiellaiendiay 00:38, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Automated message to bot owners

[edit]

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 05:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

WatchlistBot seems to have removed the WikiProject Numismatics box to Legal Tender [1], possibly triggered by Searchme's rating of it. I'm still a bit bemused as to why; removing templates doesn't seem to be part of your bot's stated use, even if the article isn't part of the corresponding WikiProject (which Legal Tender is). --Scott Wilson 23:17, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This bot has also removed the WikiProject Numismatics box from York rating. Plese stop it from doing this kind of thing.
Dove1950 12:30, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was actually triggered by trying to fix a mistake the bot had made a long time ago. This is not a new feature, or something the bot will be doing regularly. Several categories and many articles which should not have been tagged got tagged. After discussion on the project talk page, it was determined that these categories (like Category:Money for Legal Tender and Category:Money stubs for York rating) should not have been included. So, the bot untagged all articles in those categories. I checked the list of articles that the bot untagged, but missed these. Ingrid 13:24, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the bot owner unwatched this bot's page and not replying to comments. OhanaUnited 05:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am the bot owner, and I replied just above your comment, explaining the situation. Is there some other problem, or some other comment I didn't respond to? Ingrid 01:14, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Usage on WikiProject Tennessee

[edit]

Hi, I'd like to use this bot at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tennessee, can you tell me how I can do that? Thanks --AW 18:59, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's the basis for your tagging?

[edit]

I see that you're tagging several articles with a "tamil nadu" tag. Some include Kaveri river, Bharatanatyam etc. On what basis are you tagging these as such? Sarvagnya 18:11, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With the help of a member of the project (User:Ganeshk), I tagged relevant categories, listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tamil Nadu/Categories. Now, the bot is tagging all articles in all tagged categories. Kaveri river is in Category:Geography of Tamil Nadu. Bharatanatyam is in Category:Tamil culture. I've stopped tagging for now, until I hear that this is resolved. Sometimes articles are miscategorized, or otherwise end up tagged when they shouldn't. I keep a list of excluded articles here to keep the bot from making the same mistake more than once. I am not a member of the project, so I don't know about the appropriateness of including specific articles. So anything controversial should be discussed with them. If anything needs to be reverted, let me know and I'll do it (or help). Ingrid 18:31, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well. Much as I am in awe of Ganesh and his bot's contributions, I must disagree here. Some of these articles are borderline cases. Kaveri river for example, it is a river that originates and flows for half its course in Karnataka. So if anything, it belongs as much to Karnataka project as Tamil's. It is also true that the article has been worked on and is on the watchlist of several Karnataka editors. So tagging it exclusively as belonging to Tamil or Tamil Nadu is inappropriate. And then, Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music etc., these are pan-Indian(atleast pan-South Indian) traditional arts that belong as much to any peoples/regions in India as it does to Tamils. And like the Kaveri river article, as many(if not more) non-Tamil editors and workgroups are involved in editing those articles as the Tamil workgroup. So once again, we're treading on thin ice here.
My suggestion is that you just tag articles such as these as belonging to the India workgroup/wikiproject and just leave it at that. Either you do that or you will have to add multiple tags to indicate that it belongs as much to x, y, z workgroup as the Tamil workgroup. The second suggestion is, to my mind impractical and unnecessary. So I request that you take corrective action on these articles that I've mentioned. I am not averse to even just removing those tags altogether. Sarvagnya 19:42, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just starting with the Tamil Nadu and plan to work on other task forces next. I don't have an opinion one way or the other about including articles in multiple task forces, but as I understand it, it won't involve multiple tagging, just listing more than one task force in the one template. Anyway, this seems like something that needs to be determined by the project, so I'm moving the discussion there. I don't plan to revert or continue tagging until the project weighs in. Wikipedia:WikiProject Films

[edit]

Hi, Ingrid. I really appreciate all the work you've done for WPHawaii. I would like to setup a watchlist for Wikipedia:WikiProject Films, listing all articles linked to Template:FilmsWikiProject. I'll look for your reply here. —Viriditas | Talk 11:46, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for setting up the watchlist. How do I link to the watchlist on WP:FILM? The reason I ask is because it looks like the watchlist was too large, and you were forced to split it up. I'm assuming you've had to do this before. In those cases, do the WikiProjects link to multiple watchlists instead of just one large one? I'm guessing that I should link to four watchlist pages: "-G, G-R, R-W, and W-…. There's no way to watch all four pages from one watchlist without transcluding them, right? And I bet that's probably not a good idea. Let me know what I should do. Thanks for your hard work. —Viriditas | Talk 21:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, task forces are perfect for the job; great advice. Out of curiosity, is your bot (or anyone's for that matter) making use of new articles being generated by User:AlexNewArtBot? It's probably a job for a human, but I was wondering if these feeds are being scanned by any project bots. It looks like the Portals are using the feeds for "Did you know" content and then manually uploading them to WP:DYK I'm surprised nobody is running a bot that grabs the human-reviewed DYK feeds from the portals and then uploads them to a section queue on Template:Did you know/Next update. Then, after these items are reviewed for the last time and manually moved to a "waiting to be moved to the main page" queue by a human, the bot could update the main page from the final section queue. This would be very useful. Have a great day. —Viriditas | Talk 22:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Wikiproject:Texas tags

[edit]

For some reason, the bot seems to have tagged CBS, Fox Broadcasting Company, and American Broadcasting Company for Wikiproject:Texas. I have removed these because they don't make any sense. bmitchelfTF 04:05, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, and fixing it. It's not immediately obvious to me why it did that. I'll look around some more and see if I can figure it out. I'll also make sure it doesn't happen again (or fix it quickly if it does). Ingrid 23:08, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The bot also keeps tagging the song "Eminence Front" for Wikiproject:Texas as well. The song is by a British band and has nothing to do with Texas. Darwin's Bulldog 00:01, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, at least this one I understand. It's in Category:Dallas Mavericks. I'll add it to the exclusion list so it's not re-added. Ingrid 00:31, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do a run watchlist run for WikiProject Louisville

probably due to the link to the Dallas Stars. but really, not needed, so I'm gonna remove the tag. thanks, Ehren 07:28, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sustainability and Energy Development

[edit]

Happy Happy Wikinreak! : ) I hope everything is going well for you. When you get back, I hope you might be able to help fix a simple problem we are having with WikiProject Energy development, as outlined here. Basically, we need to have the project tag, {{WikiProject Energy development}}, added to the talk page of all articles linked to the template. After which, Category:WikiProject Energy development articles can be removed from the template. Thank you. —Viriditas | Talk 21:01, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear bot, Human editors have decided that this article is outside the scope of WikiProject India (see [2]) so I would be grateful if you would refrain from adding a WP India template to it's talk page. If you're unable to exclude this article without it's category being changed, you need to be fixed :) Cheers. --kingboyk 19:23, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Civil engineering would appreciate having a watchlist

[edit]

Hello, when ya'll come back from the Wikibreak, it would be great if the Bot could create a watchlist for WP:CEng utilizing Category:Civil engineering as the primary means of decision making as to what articles to include on a watchlist. Let me know what I/we need to do to get it done. Thanks! ZueJay (talk) 16:10, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

San Francisco Bay Area

[edit]

Can you re-include this watchlist in your automated updates: Wikipedia:WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area/Watchlist. i tried to update the template on your talk page, i dont know if i did it right, or if it even affects the running. this watchlist has remained stagnant since 2007. the Wikiproject and related portal have been somewhat rejuvenated recently, mostly due to my ridiculous amount of time spent adding the template to talk pages and categorizing articles (and revamping the portal).Mercurywoodrose (talk) 06:24, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
