Unlimited and unmaintainable list of all chefs on Wikipedia. Organization of a topic of this caliber should be left to categories, not infinite lists. The original AFD was delete. Mbdfar (talk) 04:29, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kommentar. I'd like to dispose of it (being a card-carrying deletionist) ... but how is it any different from all the other Category:lists of people by occupation, e.g. List of computer scientists? Clarityfiend (talk) 06:03, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @Clarityfiend:, I don't see it as being any different, and if people agree with the deletion of this list perhaps those would be next. Then followed by notable people from cities and notable college alumni lists. I guess I just don't understand the benefit of having both massive, unwieldy lists, as well categories. These lists are not user friendly; do people really look for one specific article from a list of hundreds of chefs from the 21st century? Categories are more specific, better organized, and more inclusive (categories are almost always quickly and correctly assigned, I'm sure fewer editors add new articles to lists such as this). I bet this topic has been discussed before, but I'm just curious what the general sentiment is now. This has been on my mind working with Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage recently. Is it worth creating more of these massive lists, such as List of Italian football players, even if categories make it redundant? Is this really a good way to build the web? Keep as standard index of people by occupation per LISTPURP and NOTDUP. The nom’s expressed antipathy towards all such lists generally is not a valid deletion argument, and makes it clear that there is no rationale specific to this list. postdlf (talk) 16:45, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
