The power of screencasting.

Screencasts – brief videos that demonstrate how to use a web site, a piece of software, etc. – can be very effective instructional tools. They can be used to bring newbies up to speed on both technical and policy issues. This WikiProject is dedicated to producing effective screencasts on Wikimedia sites; how to edit, how various community and collaborative processes work, etc.

Our main subpages are:

  • /How-to – The polished final tutorial. (under development)
  • /Screencast Factory - ideas and scripts – ideas for individual screencasts, of the hundreds that we hope to inspire. Add your own ideas, or pick a screencast to work on - either by yourself, or with some collaborators.

To do

[edit]
How-to
  • Keep improving this page – slowly but constantly clarify. Keep it simple.
Gallery
  • give feedback on the new layout, suggest improvements.
  • add missing items, and remove or update any low-quality items.
Software
  • needs an overhaul:
    • add what we've learned so far.
    • structured for easier browsing (open&free vs commercial, compatible-OS).
    • add any obviously missing programs.
Factory - high priority
  • Work on the almost-completed scripts (prepare visuals, proofread and improve).
  • Work on the newly suggested scripts.
  • Read through and clarify the items in the "Ideas for screencasts" section.
