Does anyone know why the subject article is getting such an extremely high number of views? This has been going on for months. Of course, it's great when a Kentucky article gets a lot of attention, but this amount doesn't make sense. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 18:38, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK, now Neatsville is #1 on the Popular pages list. In my estimation at this point, the views for that article are illegitimate, and the true #1 is Abraham Lincoln. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 22:45, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is extremely weird and unusual. I really doubt that the views are from humans as articles with a lot of human traffic usually have a lot of edits, but this article has only had 6 edits within the past four years. It’s also strange how this has been going on for the past several years.  Kentuckian |💬   05:38, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Weird indeed. I'm convinced by information known so far that we're dealing with effectively bot hits. There is an ongoing discussion at the Village Pump about this. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 08:25, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Per the abovementioned Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous)/Archive 78#Inexplicably popular article (by views), I have temporarily boldly moved this article from Neatsville, Kentucky to Neatsville, Adair County, Kentucky, to see whether this breaks the disruptive pattern of pageview generation. I will move it back to its original title in one week (at 16:00, 24 June 2024 (UTC)). Cheers! BD2412 T 16:22, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Past Week's Hot Edits list redesigned

[edit]

The Past Week's Hot Edits list on the front page has been redesigned:

  1. I'm no longer depending on a specific bot and instead using a general purpose bot that fills in the {{Database report}} template. In the past year, I've become a lot more acquainted with the wiki database and how to write queries against it, so this redesign puts that learning to good use. It's smarter to use a general purpose bot that gets wider use, since whenever it goes down, it gets a higher administrative priority to address.
  2. Because I was more in control of the design, I was able to add another column showing our assessment rating for each article.

This list will update once a day like the previous version did. I also just added an update date in a hatnote above the list. Please let me know if you have any questions. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 04:56, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Improvements to project alerts

[edit]

I'm busy today. :) I also just made the project alerts more prominent on the front page and added some current major backlogs to it. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 06:27, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current major backlogs

[edit]

Due to minor technical issues, I recently moved the list of current major backlogs out from alerts and into its own section on the project's front page. As of now, the table keeps track of

  1. Stubs needing expansion or reassessment
  2. Cleanup issues
  3. Photo/image requests
  4. Articles with old cleanup issues

If any WikiProject Kentucky members are interested, I can also track "Possibly undercategorized articles" (articles with 4 or fewer non-stub/non-hidden categories) like I do for WP Louisville. It would be straightforward to set up. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 05:11, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Photo/image requests

[edit]

I've gone through and updated/sanitized our photo requests across Kentucky-related articles. We currently have approximately 1,100 such requests. As part of this, I have broken many requests down to the county level, although much more could be done this way. At any rate, see the "Current major backlogs" section on the front page for the most up-to-date total and link to a list of all requests. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest!
