by Max Beerbohm

1912. Four versions of A Christmas Garland appeared from 1896 to 1950. The first appeared in 1896 and was published simultaneously in the Saturday Review Christmas edition (U.K.) and The Chap Book (U.S.). The second came out in 1906 in the Saturday Review of 8, 15, 22 and 29 December. The third version was the 1912 publication in book form, reprinting some of the earlier pieces and adding a number of new items. The 1950 edition was identical to the 1912 except for the addition of the piece "All Roads".
