Recorded since c.1205, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ONF." is not valid.     4. (nautical) A heavy rope or chain of at least 10 inches thick, as used to moor or anchor a ship.
