[edit]Clipping of English Cheddar cheese, from Cheddar, the name of a village in Somerset, England where the cheese originated, from Old English ceodor (“ravine; deep cavity or pouch”), likely in reference to Cheddar Gorge, the largest gorge in the United Kingdom.
