Italian lemma

[edit]

Neither Treccani nor Hoepli list "asme" as a plural form of "asma" (see https://dizionari.corriere.it/dizionario-si-dice/A/asma.shtml and https://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/asma-maschile-o-femminile_%28La-grammatica-italiana%29/); if no reference is provided, I will modify the page accordingly. --DostoHouskij (talk) 14:35, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is a descriptive dictionary based on usage, not on other dictionaries. If this is in use as a plural of asma, we can't just pretend it doesn't exist. On the other hand, it would be inappropriate to have it displayed at asma as the only plural, and possibly not as a correct plural. Then there's the matter of the gender. This really needs to be discussed by knowledgable speakers. I would advise starting a discussion about this at the Tea room. Chuck Entz (talk) 20:31, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Antwort
Even if we are willing to accept an incorrect form (which should then, in my opinion, be marked as such), I would argue that one still needs to add a source proving that it is in use. For what is worth, I am a native speaker, and I think that you will not find many speakers who are more knowledgable than authors of well-known dictionaries. Concerning the gender, it seems to me that the links I provided discuss the question quite accurately; anyway, thank you for your advice, but I will not start a discussion (at least, not soon) since I fear I would not have the time to follow it: if you are not convinced by what I wrote, I will simply leave the page as it is. --DostoHouskij (talk) 21:14, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
