Etymology

From Old Irish scél (compare Scottish Gaelic sgeul, Manx skeeal), from Proto-Celtic *skʷetlom (compare Welsh chwedl, a loanword from Goidelic), from Proto-Indo-European *sekʷ- (“to say”).
