Yesterday marked the end of a significant era in Finnish space research as the Aalto-1 satellite made its final pass over Finland and re-entered the atmosphere after a successful seven-year journey. 🌍🛰️ This student-led project, which launched a new space age in Finland, has also been pivotal for VTT. Aalto-1 carried three scientific components into space, including VTT’s imaging spectrometer, paving the way for future space missions and advancing Finnish high-tech research. Although Aalto-1’s mission has concluded, this is not the end, but rather a part of our ongoing commitment to strengthen Finland's position as a leader in the space industry. Collaboration and innovation are key as we continue to develop the space solutions of tomorrow. First you are on the edge of your seat during the launch, then you wait anxiously for the first connection, and finally the images flow in. All flawless! Goose bumps. We are so proud at VTT to have our #hyperspectral imaging technology adopted by Kuva Space. This is not the first flight reference but this one is so special. Thanks to that unbelievable talent of the Kuva Space team, this is the beginning of a new constellation that has no comparison.   Among our spinoffs in the hyperspectral technology field we proudly count e.g. champions like the leader of handheld microspectrometers Spectral Engines and the leader of pushbroom hyperspectral imaging Specim, now a Konica-Minolta company.   And mark my words: it is only the beginning.   Please join the hyperspectral imaging community in Helsinki this 9-11 December at #IEEEWhispers 2024!
