Best Kind of Mess is Get Scared’s first full-length studio album, arriving two years after their 2009 debut EP Cheap Tricks and Theatrics.
The album is characterized by the band’s signature gothic horror vibes, complete with remakes of tracks from their previous EP, namely “Sarcasm” and “Voodoo”. Best Kind of Mess features hard-hitting tracks like “Hate”, which inches on the metalcore sound characterizing Get Scared’s later albums, and punk rock tracks like “Wrong” and “Hurt”, which creep on pop, but remain solidly in post-hardcore with lead singer Nicholas Matthews' scream vocals.
