Reviving an Ailing Apparel Unit: A Success Story of #RightWalk Foundation’s #Apprenticeship Program We’re thrilled to share a recent success story of how RightWalk Foundation’s apprenticeship program played a crucial role in saving a struggling apparel manufacturing unit in Palakkad, #Kerala. Faced with a severe shortage of skilled workers, the unit was on the verge of closure. However, students from the Government Women’s ITI in Palakkad stepped in just in time and joined as apprentices facilitated by RightWalk. Their hands-on experience and dedication not only helped meet critical production deadlines but also revitalized the entire operation. This initiative has not only provided much-needed skilled labor but also ensured the survival of a key local industry. The collaboration between our team and the KINFRA Industrial Park has demonstrated the power of apprenticeship in addressing industry challenges and preserving jobs. We are proud that this impactful story has been featured in the #Kerala edition of #TheIndianExpress, an esteemed English daily. It serves as a testament to the positive change that strategic skill development can bring to local economies. #Apprenticeship #SkillDevelopment #RightWalkFoundation #EconomicRevival #Kerala #IndianExpress #Empowerment Samina Bano Shipra Srivastava

My take on the latest budget announcement on #Internship scheme. In our continuous efforts to empower the youth through skill development and employment opportunities, we're thrilled about the recent announcement from the finance minister. A significant outlay of Rs. 63,000 crore aims to provide real-world business experience to 10 million youth through internships in 500 top companies over the next five years. Each of these companies will hire 4000 interns annually, offering them a monthly stipend of Rs. 5000 plus a one-time Rs. 6000 payment. This initiative will see companies bearing only 10% of the cost, which can be booked under CSR. On an average this would come around 2-3 crore annually when implemented in full capacity, a tiny portion of their CSR budget. At RightWalk, we’ve been championing an apprenticeship scheme where companies are required to recruit 2.5% of their manpower as apprentices for 6 to 36 months, with stipends ranging from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 9000. For ITI graduates, this typically means Rs. 8000 per month, with 25% reimbursed by the central government up to Rs. 1500 per month. Many state governments have supplemented these stipends, easing the financial burden on industries. Importantly, companies can already book the stipend paid to apprentices under CSR. They are required to hire a minimum of 2.5% and up to 15% of their manpower as apprentices. Any apprentice expenditure over the 2.5% threshold can be booked under CSR funding. This existing provision ensures that the CSR funding of stipends is not a new concept and, for large companies, represents a small portion of their CSR budget. Concerns that CSR funding will be diverted away from social sectors are yet to seen. However, we recognize that the stipend for this new internship program might seem low, and we anticipate varying levels of interest among students. Yet, the potential for integration with the apprenticeship program is immense. Interns performing well could seamlessly transition into apprenticeships, thereby benefiting from a progressive stipend increase and extended training period. This dual approach can significantly expand our impact: - Expanding our programs that will add interns as well. - Allowing industries to fulfill their apprenticeship requirements - Enhancing the overall scale and reach of our program by placing interns & apprentices For the 500 top companies, the financial outlay is minimal, making this a win-win situation. It’s an opportunity for us to tap into these companies, ensuring our students receive quality training and potential pathways to full-time employment. We’re eagerly looking forward to the detailed guidelines and criteria, hoping this initiative will offer less eligibility constraints. States have asked us to include internship scheme into our portfolio. This new development sees no reason for us to say no. #SkillDevelopment #YouthEmpowerment #Internship #Apprenticeship #CSR #RightWalk #WorkforceDevelopment #FutureReady

Maharashtra exceeding our expectations 😌 Rightwalk’s Maharashtra team recently met with the Government of Maharashtra to review our operations in the apprenticeship space across the entire state. The government expressed immense pleasure and appreciation for our collaboration, particularly highlighting the tremendous work of the PMU and our divisional coordinators in significantly increasing apprenticeship numbers. Maharashtra is going from strength to strength, and we are immensely proud of our exceptional team, including the PMU team in Mumbai and divisional teams in challenging regions like Nandurbar, Dharashev, and other aspirational districts. RightWalk has successfully revived these areas, leading to a noticeable growth in apprenticeship numbers. A special shoutout to co-founder Shipra for her leadership during this impressive government meeting. Here's to many more milestones and continued success in Maharashtra!
