Strengthening Early Childhood Development and Education in Africa! Our ChildFund Kenya Early Childhood Development Specialist, Damaris Wambua recently represented the Africa region at the 5th meeting of the Technical Committee of the Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) Cluster under the African Union's Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 2016-2025). This meeting was held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The cluster meeting, held alongside the AU consultation to review the current CESA strategy and draft a new one for 2026 to 2035, was a critical moment to reflect on progress, share learnings, and shape the future of ECD and education in #Africa. Damaris presented key insights based on ChildFund's ECD and education programs in Africa, while the Cluster Coordinator, The African Early Childhood Network (AfECN), highlighted the cluster's work supporting African countries, accomplishments, challenges, gaps, and opportunities. #EarlyChildhoodEducation #CESA #AfricanUnion #EducationForAll

I am proud to be part of the peer educators who will be leading dialogue sessions with other students on identifying and reporting online child sexual abuse. So far, I have learned how to report any content that I find disturbing online and most importantly, the different forms of online child sexual exploitation and abuse.” Nadia, 10 (redacted)   Like Nadia, many children in peri-urban setups find themselves helping their parents to access their social media platforms due to their limited digital literacy skills. This poses a risk to children as they can access content unsuitable for their age.   By equipping children with knowledge about online dangers, they lead in creating awareness among their peers, parents, and by extension, the communities they live in as they become part of the #safeonline generation!
