This year, 1 August is #EarthOvershootDay. Unfortunately, that means humanity’s demand for ecological resources in a given year has exceeded what Earth can regenerate. Since the early 1970s, humanity has been in an ecological deficit, according to a report based on United Nations data. The first global “Earth Overshoot Day” fell on 25 December 1971. This date is brought forward little by little every year, significantly impacting reserves for future generations and underscoring our responsibility to act.
