Water is vital to human and planetary health. A new United Nations System-wide Strategy for Water and Sanitation, launched this week at #HLPF in New York, aims to accelerate progress and support billions facing water risks by uniting efforts. With a strong track record in water management, UNEP supports Member States by enhancing data collection and use, implementing integrated water resources management, and addressing key water challenges. “UNEP will throw all its knowledge and expertise behind the new system-wide strategy as we seek to secure clean and abundant water, and the freshwater ecosystems that provide it, for all,” said Executive Director Inger Andersen: https://lnkd.in/evsQwtAd

Technological advancements are making the world a global village. However, digital technology and infrastructure depend heavily on raw materials. The production and disposal of more and more devices, along with growing water and energy needs, are taking an increasing toll on the planet, with developing countries disproportionally bearing the brunt of this environmental cost. UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)'s report, citing information from UNEP and others, highlights the need for bold action from policymakers, industry leaders, and consumers, while urging for a global shift towards a circular digital economy, focusing on circularity by design through durable products, responsible consumption, reuse and recycling, and sustainable business models. https://lnkd.in/dZ_a_89q
