Lyme Disease in the Hudson Valley area

New York State currently has the highest number of confirmed cases of Lyme disease in the United States and the Hudson Valley is specifically considered a high-risk area.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection spread through the bite of infected ticks. Tick exposure can occur year-round, but ticks are most active in the warmer months (April-September) and are much more prevalent following milder winter seasons.

The CDC's Lyme Disease information page includes how it’s spread, where it’s found, how it’s prevented, how it’s diagnosed, and how it’s treated.

West Point's MilTICK Program is a free tick testing and identification service available for ticks removed from the Department of Defense personnel and their dependents.

When hiking, gardening, or any outdoor activity in high grass, you should take measures to protect yourself and always checks for ticks after being outdoors.
