On July 2, 2024, the construction company Power2Build – in partnership with COBOD International, Dar, and others – presented the BOD 3 3D printer for the first time in an event held in Luanda, Angola. Designed for printing concrete structures, the BOD 3 3D Printer (COBOD’s latest and largest printer) highlights Angola’s commitment to innovation and technological development in its construction industry. The inauguration of this new technology aligns with Dar’s research agenda & development on innovation with impact, particularly in 3D printing, which has exceptional potential to disrupt and modernise the construction industry and reduce construction waste, safeguarding natural resources while still delivering more performant designs. In honour of World Humanitarian Day, TYLin reflects on the remarkable journey of constructing the Muregeya Trail Bridge in Rwanda. This 115-meter bridge isn't just a structure; it’s a lifeline. Spanning the Muregeya River, the bridge connects pathways, prevents isolation, and opens doors to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for up to 2,500 people in Karongi. The Muregeya Trail Bridge is an innovative project made possible through the collaboration of TYLin, Introba, Dar, and Bridges to Prosperity. A huge thank you to our incredible team and partners for turning this vision into a reality. Looking ahead, we hope to contribute to more initiatives that transform lives and empower local communities.
In a journey full of twists, like the meandering Muregeya River, a new path emerged, presenting unexpected challenges and significant impact. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dF7SBb8U When landslides jeopardized our original project, our Bridges to Prosperity team from TYLin, Introba, and Dar quickly pivoted, applying the expertise gained from B2P’s innovative hybrid suspension bridge project last year. With renewed focus, we embarked on building a 377-foot bridge over the treacherous Muregeya River. This crucial bridge will serve over 2,500 residents, providing safe passage and connecting them to markets, communities, and schools. Through these efforts, we hope to transform lives, weaving hope and opportunity into the fabric of the Rubengera community. An inspiring initiative that promises safety, dignity, and hope for people experiencing homelessness, the DOME was developed by Perkins&Will’s Innovation Incubator team as part of Los Angeles’ A Bridge Home initiative. Around the world, Sidara supports impactful projects that harness innovation not just to solve problems, but to transform lives and uplift communities, working towards a world where everyone has a place to call home.
With the Olympic Games in Paris having just come to a thrilling conclusion, we’re reminded of the immense effort that goes into preparing a city for such an incredible, global event – and the long-lasting community impact it can have. Now, with the Olympic torch heading to Los Angeles, the International Olympic Committee has made tackling the city’s growing problem of homelessness a condition of LA hosting the forthcoming games. At Sidara, we believe that innovation is about more than just technology and data, it’s about using new thinking to create a better home for all. As part of LA’s A Bridge Home initiative, Perkins&Will’s Innovation Incubator team developed DOME – modular dwelling units designed to provide safety and hope for those in interim housing. Currently in use in South Los Angeles with 100 installations, they are a testament to the power of innovative design. With an estimated 75,000 of the city’s people affected by homelessness last year, these units offer additional comfort for those experiencing a challenging time in their lives. Envisioning an exceptional and vibrant future for Africa’s aviation sector, Ethiopian Airlines has launched plans to deliver one of Africa’s most ambitious new airports, in Abusera. With an ultimate capacity of 110 million passengers a year, the new airport will quadruple the capacity of Bole International Airport. A critical element of Ethiopian Airlines’ 15-year strategic plan to become one of the most competitive aviation groups in the world, the state-of-the-art airport will revolutionise air travel in Ethiopia and cement the country’s position as the crossroads of the world’s most rapidly expanding air travel markets.
