Can steward add "Disable global blocks locally (globalblock-whitelist)" to GS on here (Special:GlobalGroupPermissions/global-sysop)?--AldNonymousBicara? 17:33, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Moved from Talk:Global sysops. I believe this page is more appropriate as it is an explicit request. --Glaisher (talk) 15:33, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Wholly agree as a global sysop. When I want to be active locally then I apply for local admin status and can make such decisions informed or as a steward upon request of the local community. As a global sysop I just help out with mopping and cross wiki vandalism and spam. To be able to unblock some one locally is definitely nog belonging to global sysop status. May I add that I often encounter small wiki's with a few inactive sysops when fighting spam/vandalism? To have sysop status there would help enormously but that is another cup of tea perhaps. Pages on zh-classical.wikipedia.org

Status:    Done

I got this message on my talk page:

Hi. Can you delete the page zh-classical:贾瓦德斋月, zh-classical:Talk:贾瓦德斋月 and zh-classical:Category:贾瓦德斋月? It's a crosswiki conflict of interest, using machine translation. It was written by an IP editer 5.232.XX.XX, and he removed the delete template again and again. (the page in wikidata Q19595494 was deleted today).--el caballero de los Leones (talk) 08:41, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Request for history merge of en:Main Page

Status:    Not done

Per a discussion on the English Wikipedia (which can be found here), there was advice to post this history merge request here. Since this history merge request involves the main page on the English Wikipedia, a page that cannot be deleted by administrators (which is required for history merges), this task has to be left up to a steward. I recently found a redirect on the English Wikipedia called en:Wikipedia:Main Page/CSS, a redirect which I discovered back in 2004 was essentially a cut-and-paste move from the main page (it was essentially a sandbox of the main page which eventually became live). I verified if some history should be merged into Main Page, and it looks as though it should. From what I saw, the edits on en:Wikipedia:Main Page/CSS that should be merged into the history of en:Main Page are the edits from 14:24 23 November 2004 (UTC) to 21:15 25 November 2004 (UTC). Thanks! Steel1943 (talk) 20:49, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm a participant in the "here" discussion. I'd appreciate it if no merge be done at the moment: momentarily deleting the en:wp main page is a big enough deal that it ought not be done unless we have local consensus first. I'll start a discussion at en:Talk:Main Page. Nyttend (talk) 20:58, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Could the history be merged using the mergehistory tool? That will duplicate the history but not require deletion of one page. Ajraddatz (talk) 21:03, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
There's a method to be able to merge edit histories without deleting any pages? If so, this could be resolved rather quickly since, in theory, the main page would not be either deleted or misplaced. Steel1943 (talk) 21:53, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Not sure if it will work in this case. I'll test it out and get back to you. Ajraddatz (talk) 21:57, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
I have to agree with Nyttend, given the history of main page deletion and the technical measures put in places to prevent its deletion, I would suggest that local consensus is established before any actions are taken. Snowolf How can I help? 21:09, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
And even if this really has to be performed, at least a developer should be informed beforehand (via #wikimedia-tech for example). Trijnsteltalk 23:52, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Not done It is impossible to delete or move enwiki's Main Page (see the very own error message You cannot delete or move the main page.). Please file a bug if this needs to be done. --MF-W 22:19, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

172.4.225.64 on tyv

Status:    Done

The previous activity has been followed immediately by more new pages (again, just to get the wiki to 1,000 articles) created by IP 172.4.225.64, who has already been blocked multiple times now. Google Translate is identifying some of these new articles as plain Russian (i.e., likely not Tuvan). IP is currently blocked for a year; can a steward (preferably one familiar with Cyrillic) look into which of these contributions should be deleted? (If I had my drothers, all of them would go. But whatever.) - dcljr (talk) 06:52, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

I deleted the new articles. I do not trust any articles that come from this guy. --MF-W 23:43, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Name changed announced but no apparent conflict

Status:    Cannot be undertaken

I got an announcement at commons:User talk:AndreasJS#Your account will be renamed that my account commons:User:AndreasJS will be renamed, however, my account at commons is a global account and I don't understand why it must be renamed. AndreasJS (talk) 15:08, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

User_talk:Andreas1 is a redirect to your talk page and the Andreas account is going to be renamed. As the bot follows redirects, the bot placed the message on your talk page. Glaisher (talk) 15:23, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Search for the text "redirect" at Talk:Single User Login finalisation announcement for more context. Someone really blew this one by not making the talk page message(s) sufficiently clear. - dcljr (talk) 03:11, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

gd.wiktionary

Status:    use SRP for permissions requests

Hi. There are currently two active users on gd.wiktionary, myself and Gunmhoine; Gunmhoine has been working there since last November or December, and I joined him in January. Neither of us have admin rights.
I have been looking at the process for requesting adminship, as per a suggestion by JAn Dudík who is kindly helping us with interwiki links via his bot. Must we, the two of us, go through the whole formal process of making pages on gd.wiktionary to vote and formally apply for adminship? All I really want is to have the speedy deletion category cleared on a relatively regular basis. Is there a bot that could do that for us? I believe there is/was a bot that is helping us filter abuse, as the site was apparently vandalized prior to our work that began Decemeber last year.
It would be nice to be able to import modules/templates from other sites, but we are managing. Thanks in advance. Kibi78704 (talk) 16:56, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

It sounds like you should both apply for temporary adminship. When that approaches expiry, you can then have an election and call some other active users from various gd wikis etc. (from the numbers I see it shouldn't be too hard to find a handful participants). --Nemo 18:44, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
I don't suggest using this approach (which exaggerates community's width), but asking for longer temporary adminships instead. --Vituzzu (talk) 18:59, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
gd:wikt:User talk:Gunmhoine has said he does not want the responsibility for adminship, though nothing says he won't change his mind nor that he has to use his privileges if granted to him. I have been performing most of the maintenance on the site since January: there has been a great deal of cleanup needed this year, and I am worried that we may be vandalized again. Our abuse filter was just disabled yesterday, but its logs show that it has averted some abuse. Someone (or someones) had created a great many categories and pages in Irish and Gibberish. There are also a large number of definitions for vulgarities in several languages, which as good lexicographers we kept, but...
As for calling some other active users from various gd wikis etc., the only other active gd wiki is gd uicipeid (active user's list), from where both Gunmhoine and I arrived at gd.wiktionary. That community is already stretched very thin, and I do not wish to poach from them. User talk:Sionnach is/was the Bureaucrat on that site and knows both of us, but seems to have been absent since 15 February. User talk:Akerbeltz, who had not been that active on the wikis for some time and was acting more as a consultant, seems to have taken on many admin duties since then.
Should Gunmhoine and I both apply for longer term credentials on gd.wiktionary as suggested by User:Vituzzu? If so, must we, the two of us, go through the whole formal process of making pages on gd.wiktionary to vote and formally apply for adminship? If so, can you point me to documentation on how to go about it? Thanks in advance.
P.S. If you know of any native Scottish Gaelic speakers, please send them our way! We need help.
Just a little note that your abusefilter has not be disabled. It's still active, but it won't act since you have no filters configured. The sysop flag of the account isn't needed since the filter is not programmed to block users. It'll work warning users and disallowing edits when appropriate without the admin flag once you configure it. Thanks. -- M\A 18:06, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

@Kibi78704: If the community is indeed that small, a simple announcement at wikt:gd:Wiktionary:Doras na coimhearsnachd where people may raise their concerns to you obtaining the admin flag should suffice. After a week, you may then post a link to that section at SRP here on metawiki. Vogone (talk) 12:52, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I have posted at wikt:gd:Wiktionary:Doras na coimhearsnachd#Adminship_for_Kibi78704, and have urged my partner to do the same. wikt:gd:User talk:Kibi78704 Kibi78704 (talk) 16:50, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
After reconsideration I do think I should share the responsibility with Kibi and will announce my candidacy at the Doras. I am really happy with her joining me and bringing this tiny wikti to life. I do hope that at some point people with more knowledge of the language will join us. We are mostly working from our own liguistic strength. I am Dutch and mostly add material from my mother tongue, but translated into gd. Of course errors in the latter are possible, which is why a native speaker would be a great help. I think both Kibi and I are sufficiently aware of the limitations we face without one. Gunmhoine (talk) 18:00, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Closing - I see that both users have requested adminship at their community portal. Please post your request at Steward requests/Permissions after a week of discussion. -- M\A 13:36, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
