Three residents of the Emmerdale village were in the middle of making huge decisions to leave in Friday’s (July 5) episode of the ITV soap.

This week, Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) dealt with the aftermath of Charles (Kevin Mathurin) finding an important invoice that linked her family to Ethan’s (Emile John) hit and run.

When Charles confronted Caleb (William Ash), he took the fall for Ruby but told the local vicar the police won’t do anything about it, because a coroner concluded the collision had nothing to do with how Ethan died.

At the end of Thursday’s instalment, it seemed as though Charles was ready to move forward after his son’s death, but got quite the shock tonight.

In the shop, Claudette (Flo Wilson) approached Ruby and tried to offer her support. She very quickly struggled with the guilt surrounding the situation and confessed that she was responsible for hitting Ethan, not Caleb.

Fortunately, at the Anderson household, Claudette, Ruby and Charles all came to an agreement to draw a line under the ordeal.

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

Back at Mill Cottage, Ruby updated Caleb and refused to forgive him for his recent behaviour. Yesterday, Ruby and Caleb also said goodbye to son Nicky (Lewis Cope), who only left the village because he was tired of his parents partaking in criminal activity and asking him to cover for them.

Angry that the relationship with her son was practically non-existent now, Ruby alluded to the fact if she left Caleb and the Dales, it might increase her chance of Nicky talking to her again.

It left Caleb very worried indeed, but will Ruby really leave?

Elsewhere tonight, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) made a discovery about Samson (Sam Hall) and his friend Josh (Osian Morgan).

A few weeks ago, Samson was stabbed by Matty (Ash Palmisciano). We know it happened accidentally, but Samson and Josh have spun a false narrative that’s made it look as though Matty is a guilty man.

As this storyline has continued, it’s shined a spotlight on a variety of characters expressing their own opinions on who they think is telling the truth, and who isn’t.

Of course, Moira (Natalie J Robb) knows Matty is innocent but for the likes of Sam (James Hooton) and Lydia (Karen Blick), they are siding with Samson.

Just recently, we also discovered Sarah (Katie Hill) believes Matty should be behind bars – but this might also have something to do with the fact she has a crush on Josh.

In tonight’s episode, Sarah and Josh met up in the pub for a drink.

As they got chatting, Sarah asked Josh about his and Samson’s plans to leave and go travelling.

Josh revealed that they’ve now brought the dates forward and has no intention of being a witness in the upcoming trial because he’s a ‘free man’.

This conversation was interrupted by Mack, who quickly instructed Sarah to go home.

There, as Mackenzie discovered Josh and Samson’s plans to leave, something dawned on him.

Mack grew curious and told Charity (Emma Atkins) that Josh and Samson must have something to hide about the stabbing, because wanting to depart the village early suggests they are planning on running away.

If the truth is exposed, does that mean Matty will be released from prison soon?
