Transition Readiness Program

The Transition Readiness Program (TRP) supports Marines and their families in their successful transition to civilian life through a series of comprehensive transition and employment assistance events and services. The TRP emphasizes a proactive approach that enables them to formulate effective post-transition employment, educational, and entrepreneurial goals.

Personal Readiness Seminar (PRS)

This 4 hour course is mandatory for services members assigned to their 1st permanent duty stations. The course offers 3 hours of financial planning strategies and an introduction to Personal and Professional Development services to assist with career guidance whether making active duty service a career to retire from or a stepping stone to a brighter future. Participants required to attend will be notified and registered through their Career Planners.

Initial Counseling (IC)

Initial Counseling is an individual session between all active duty service members and P&PD staff and is the first step to establishing and documenting transition-related goals. This requirement cannot be waived and must be completed prior to registration/entry to the Transition Readiness Seminar. Retirees may attend this component up to 24 months prior to EAS but must do so no later than 12 months from EAS. Separating service members may complete this component up to 18 months prior to EAS but must do so no later than 12 months from EAS.

Pre-separation Counseling Class

Pre-separation Counseling is a two-hour class facilitated by P&PD staff and is designed to provide an overview of the Transition Readiness Seminar (TRS) and benefits earned as a result of time in service. This mandatory requirement cannot be waived and must be completed prior to registration/entry to the Transition Readiness Seminar. Retirees may attend Pre-separation Counseling up to 24 months prior to EAS but must do so no later than 12 months from EAS. Separating service members may complete this component up to 18 months prior to EAS but must do so no later than 12 months from EAS.

Service members must contact their Unit Transition Coordinators to register for Pre-separation Counseling.

Transition Readiness Seminar (TRS)

This signature 5-day course is mandatory for active-duty members separating or retiring from military service. Topics include VA Benefits, Military Skills Translation, Department of Labor led employment curriculum, and Financial Planning. Listed below is the current TRS schedule with accompanying Tracks. To register for TRS, please contact your Unit Transition Counselor or Career Planner.

MYEducation

The Accessing Higher Education course is a 2-day, hands-on course designed to guide you through the variety of decisions involved in choosing a degree program, finding the right college, exploring funding sources and completing the application process. Career and Credential Exploration (C2E)

The purpose of this training is to provide participants with information and a range of tools and resources to help evaluate career options and gain the necessary training or credentials needed to pursue vocational career goals. To register for C2E, please contact your Unit Transition Counselor or Career Planner.

SkillBridge

The DoD SkillBridge Program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences to increase the probability of employment after separation or retirement.
