Join us in our mission to regreen African landscapes and cool down the planet. DIG IN.

Over ons

At Justdiggit, we firmly believe in the power of nature to heal our planet. Together with farmers, pastoralists and (local) partners, we bring back vegetation to degraded landscapes in Africa using nature-based solutions so that ecosystems can thrive again, and the Earth’s temperature can cool down. So far we have dug 438,000 water bunds, recovered over 18 million native trees, and restored 433,000 hectares of land for the benefit of people, animals and our planet. We are happy with our impact thus far, but we aren’t nearly done yet. That’s because we’re not only on a mission to regreen landscapes in Africa – we also want to regreen hearts & minds all over the world. We want everyone to know that we can regreen and cool down our beautiful planet, together. To achieve this, we are building an ever-growing global regreening movement, connecting farmers, (I)NGOs, businesses and individuals with a shared vision for a greener and cooler world. Are you ready to join us on this mission? Contact us via [email protected] and let’s dig in together.

🌍📢 Farmers take #Regreening into their own hands with the new #KijaniApp Knowledge is the steering wheel of change and impact. Within Justdiggit and over 3 years, I have had the privilege to work in a dynamic team on a transformative learning tool that touches the agricultural lives of farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa with climate-smart agriculture techniques packaged within courses containing simple language, audios and videos. This is all found in our new Kijani App, downloadable in Tanzania Play Store! Acquiring knowledge regarding #NatureBasedSolutions is crucial to maintaining the soil health of agricultural land, while simultaneously improving yields and impacting the lives of farmers beyond our generation. 🌱 The creation of Kijani began with multiple surveys administered to 300+ farmers in the Dodoma Region, Tanzania, in 2020. I led the testing over these years and, stemming from farmer feedback, the Kijani App has now reached its final form. I recall a pastoralist from Owerendeke Village, in Arusha Region, during a focus group discussion exclaimed: “Organisations always give education and disappear, but this is the best option. I can download and it stays in my phone and I have a bigger chance to learn today and tomorrow. But also, this helps because at the end you are tested with a quiz on what you have learned.”. This is a chance for every farmer owning an Android phone to learn and transform their agriculture practices for the better. 🤝 So far, through our program, 1m+ farmers have been reached. Now, through #DigitalRegreening we aim to reach 350 million farmers, and this journey has been kicked off with the launch of the Kijani App in Tanzania during the Farmer’s Day festival (Nane Nane Day), where we participated in Dodoma, Arusha, and Mbeya regions with the support of partners, namely: LEAD Foundation Tanzania , MVIWARUSHA, TAHA and Rikolto. On 7th August, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture in Tanzania, his Hon. David Silinde, presented the Kijani App to the Tanzanian public saying: “It is one of the modern ways to restore and protect natural vegetation in agricultural areas. After receiving training through this application, farmers will monitor the progress of training by uploading images of their fields and Justdiggit will measure the level of effectiveness using satellite images.” We reached an amazing 1,000+ Kijani App downloads. Upfront feedback from first-time users and viewers was warming with wide acceptance. We had a good conversation with the Director of Extension Services - Upendo Mndeme, and I recall her saying “There are many applications around farming but this is unique”. 📲 Over the last week, our in-app WhatsApp has been overflowing with questions, feedback and farmers sharing their intent to uptake the course practically. The optimistic acceptance of Kijani App from the community portrays the promising future growth of digital regreening in Africa to restore degraded lands and impact millions of farmers.

Learning has never been this easy! 🌍✨ In today's fast-paced world, with rapid technological growth and reduced attention spans, we need to rethink how to enhance learning for better outcomes. We've all experienced different learning methods, but the #Justdiggit and #LEAD Foundations' approach has truly amazed me. I used to think that adult learning has to involve classroom settings with blackboards, hefty books, and serious teachers perhaps in suits. That perception changed when I joined @Justdiggit and here is what I discovered: 🎶 Fun and engaging learning: We make learning a joy by incorporating talents, singing, and dancing. We laugh together, especially when artists like the famous Jaymondy join in. Rhythm and melody combined with educational messages create memorable and enjoyable moments. 🏡 Community-based learning: Our sessions often take place around village centres. Our learning is led by our champion farmers and district coordinators who are our brothers and sisters. We exchange knowledge and skills through testimonies, questions, and answers in a more informal and interactive setting. 🎥 Learning through movies: Our roadshows feature movies recorded in our environment with fellow farmers and friends, based on real-life experiences. This method brings learning to life in a relatable way and keeps our eyes and hearts entertained while our brains retain the knowledge 👩🏫 Enthusiastic trainers: Our trainers are passionate and innovative, ensuring effective learning with various methods and continuous support for practice. Amidst concerns about the future, sustainability, and technological advancements, we @Justdiggit see opportunities. As we aim for #morelandsregreened, #moretreesrecovered, #morepeopleengaged, and #moretonsofcarbonsequestered we are using the power of a smartphone in your hands achieve this. The Kijani app, available on Google Play Store, turns your smartphone into a powerful tool for acquiring knowledge and skills, helping you improve your farming practices. Keep following our updates for the launch of the app in August in Tanzania. Download the Kijani app today and join us in regreening our landscapes and cooling down the planet! 🌱💚 #Learning #Education #Innovation #InteractiveLearning #Regreening #DancingAndSinging #Sustainability #KijaniApp
