Kia ora!! At Sharesies we're on the lookout for an experienced, collaborative and curious Security Analyst to join our team! If you're keen for a hands-on security role, enjoy exploring complex problems and asking tough questions, we'd love to have you come join us!! It's a small but awesome team, currently all based in Wellington - Pia Lange (Security Manager), Hugh Davenport (Appsec Engineer) and a Security Analyst (our current one is about to head off on overseas adventures - hence this vacancy).  We have a preference for someone based here in Welly but are open to fully remote elsewhere in NZ for the right person - we all already work in a hybrid way. If you've got any questions about the role or life at Sharesies, please hit me up! Applications close 16 August. https://lnkd.in/gpzCKZRF

Connecting Companies to Retail Investors at Sharesies

Last week I had the privilege of being part of a panel for Australasian Investor Relations Association (AIRA)'s Consolidation Dynamics in Retail Wealth: Implications For Shareholders And Market Diversity, alongside Chris Wilson CFA and Matt Henry. It was great to discuss and share insights into the retail investors market - something I’m obviously passionate about! Most interesting was the shared agreement from the panel that companies need to get better at engaging with their shareholders. At Sharesies we focus on empowering and encouraging companies to engage with their members, in the right way, over the right channels. We don’t see shareholders as ‘just’ a source of capital - but instead see the value they bring as customers, suppliers, employees and brand advocates as well. By recognising this and being deliberate in communicating with this group, companies are much more likely to see true engagement and support for their strategic goals - unlocking more value from the listed model. #retailinvestors #AIRA #retailwealth #shareholders #brandadvocacy Leighton Roberts Brooke Roberts Sonya Williams

AIRA NZ IR Update - Event Highlights What a fantastic day in Auckland as we gathered for an insightful and engaging event and networking. A special thank you to all our speakers, sponsors, and participants who made this day a success. We're proud to support the growth and development of investor relations in New Zealand and look forward to many more successful opportunities to connect. 📸 Here are just some of the snapshots capturing the day with more to come... #AIRA2024 #AIRAEvents #InvestorRelations #IR #ESG #AucklandEvent #Networking #ESG #InvestorRelationsNewZealand

At the Australasian Investor Relations Association (AIRA) 2024 Annual New Zealand Investor Relations Update. Listening to Susannah Batley discussing the “Sharesies difference”: never had a net sell month on the platform. Tips on how to better engage retail shareholders: - Think of investor relations as a quasi-marketing function for the business. - There are real benefits to companies from customer and supplier crossover to shareholders. - Think of a segmented approach and communication channels between institutional investors (B2B) and retail (B2C). - Utilise short-form videos to supplement long-form reports. Shorter, more regular.

For medical cannabis companies in NZ, it’s been a long road—and the patience of retail investors could be waning. That’s why on this week’s Shared Lunch podcast, we talk to Ruatoria-based Rua Bioscience about why it's pinning its hopes on a pivot from cultivation and manufacturing, to selling cannabis genetics overseas, and why CEO Paul Naske sees significant growth ahead: “The pie for legal cannabis is only going to get bigger from this point on.” - Paul Naske Listen to this week's episode of Shared Lunch on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or watch on YouTube. Stoked to introduce AI Search into the Sharesies ecosystem! This tool will help our customers gain context, search, and discover investments based on topics that interest them. Whether it’s renewable energy, female-led companies, or even the prospect of moon colonisation, AI Search will provide insights, theses, and help uncover new investment opportunities. Navigating thousands of investment options can be overwhelming. That’s why we partnered with Luc Pettett, Laurene McMeckan and the amazing team at ⍜ Telescope AI to bring AI Search to life. A huge thanks to the Telescope team and my incredible product team Brendan Doggett, Demetria Chelepy, Allan Mansfield, Christie Metson, Alex Thomson, Brooke Roberts, Leighton Roberts and Sonya Williams for making this possible for our customers!

We’re proud to say that we've extended our parental leave top-up from 18 to 26 weeks and increased our parental leave top-up cap to $110k. Check out this post by our GM of People Experience Anna who shares why we've done this and what it has meant to the team. 💖

Remuneration and benefits are hot topics right now. The cost of living is up, and while inflation is slowly easing, we’re not necessarily feeling much relief yet. Sharesies’ purpose is to create financial empowerment for everyone, and that includes our team. Benefits are an important part of this, and today, we wanted to share some changes we’ve introduced to our parental leave offering. Having kids is one of the most important—and expensive—life events. Since we were just a small startup, we’ve chosen to provide extra support for parents above and beyond our legislative obligations. Now that Sharesies has grown up a bit, it was time for an update. To better support new parents, we’ve extended our parental leave top-up from 18 to 26 weeks—matching the NZ parental leave period. We’ve also increased our parental leave top-up cap to $110k. Plus, we offer three weeks paid (capped) partners leave once pēpi (baby) is born.  For employees who don’t meet the “work test” threshold to be eligible for government payments, we provide the same parental leave provisions as a permanent employee working for at least 6 months but less than 12 months receives (basically, we top up their pay regardless of whether they get government payments). We continue to pay KiwiSaver on parental leave top-ups, and after 3 months back at work, parents taking annual leave are paid at either their average weekly earnings or ordinary weekly pay, whichever is higher (meaning our parents can take leave knowing they’ll get their ‘standard’ pay after 3 months). Taking parental leave doesn’t impact anyone’s entitlements to their employee share options (yes we’re shareholders as well as employees at Sharesies!), and of course, we offer flexible working to all of our returning parents (well, all employees really!) This also covers our small team in Australia (even though Australian paid parental leave is currently less than 26 weeks). Our team was really excited to hear about our new and improved parental leave offering, and we’re proud of it too! We’re committed to making Sharesies a welcoming and flexible environment for parents and supporting our people as they grow their families. You can find more detail and keep up to date with our offering on Crayon (https://lnkd.in/g2YmGCmF).

Do you have a will? And will you be making a donation to a charitable cause within it? On this week’s ep of Shared Lunch, we bust some myths, and share that you don’t need thousands to make a difference to the causes you believe in. This is a great chat about the difference we could make collectively if we considered giving to charitable causes after we die, more like we do in life. A really insightful episode for us all. Listen to the conversation with Brooke Roberts and Catherine Simpson (she/her) from Public Trust on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or watch on YouTube. Tune in!

In this short episode of Shared Lunch, Leighton Roberts and Brad Olsen JP discuss the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's decision to maintain the official cash rate at 5.5%. Olson, joining from Geneva, explores the flip-flop in the Reserve Bank's stance, shifting from considering a rate hike in May to now signalling potential rate cuts by November 2024. The conversation covers inflation trends, local NZ sentiment, the impact on mortgage rates, and potential future moves by the Reserve Bank and global counterparts like the US Federal Reserve and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
