Urgent & Emergency Care

Pope Field doesn’t offer urgent or emergency care services.

Urgent Care

Urgent Care services treat non-life-threatening health issues that require immediate attention, such as sprains, the flu, colds, and other common illnesses.

If you’re unsure about whether you need urgent care, contact the Military Health System Nurse Advice Line to speak to a registered nurse. Visit MHSNurseAdviceLine.com for web chat and video chat, or dial 1-800-TRICARE (874-2273).

To learn about how TRICARE covers urgent care, visit the TRICARE Urgent Care page. If needed, active duty personnel may be seen at an off-post urgent care center. TRICARE authorization is required. Failure to secure an authorization number may result in financial liability.

Reach Womack Army Medical Center Urgent Care, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at 910-904-2433. Walk-ins only. Available for minor acute injuries (non-emergency sick call),

Do not report to the WAMC Urgent Care for an emergency situation or follow-up care. If you need a follow-up appointment for any medical reason, please make an appointment with your primary care manager.

Dependents no longer need a referral for WAMC Urgent Care.

Emergency Care

If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical situation (including mental health emergencies), call 911 immediately. Emergency care services treat life-threatening medical issues such as threats to your life, limbs, sight, or safety.

Medical emergencies are the sudden and unexpected onset of a medical condition that:

  • Is threatening to life, limb, or eyesight;
  • Requires immediate medical treatment; or
  • Manifests painful symptoms that requires immediate response to alleviate suffering.

Call your primary care manager within 24 hours or the next business day after getting emergency care to get authorization and coordinate ongoing care.
