New Girl star Lamorne Morris is joining Nicholas Cage in the upcoming live-action Spider-Man Noir series. Morris will play popular character Robbie Robertson in the Amazon Prime Video show, which is now titled Spider-Noir.

The Spider-Man Noir comic was created by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and Carmine Di Giandomenico, as part of the Marvel Noir miniseries. Set during the Great Depression era, Spider-Man dons a costume based on his uncle’s World War I airman uniform, and takes on New York’s criminal underworld led by Norman Osborn.

In Spider-Man Noir, Robbie is one of Peter Parker’s bosses at the Daily Bugle. But unlike the tense working relationship that Peter shares with J. Jonah Jameson, Robbie is a good friend to the photographer and superhero. Per the character description, Robbie is a tenacious journalist who consistently deals with the tough odds of being a Black professional in 1930s New York. He investigates the risky stories that others sidestep to crack cases and advance his career.

Cage is playing the titular hero in the live-action series, returning to the character he voiced in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He has provided some details on the series, including that the first season will consist of eight episodes with run times of 45 minutes.

Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot will act as co-showrunners, who developed the series with the Into the Spider-Verse team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. All five will be executive producers, along with Harry Bradbeer, who will direct the first two episodes.
