Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in a film adaptation of Paul B. Rainey’s Why Don’t You Love Me? graphic novel.

A24 has acquired the rights for the movie, which will be written by Robert Funke (creator of the series On Becoming a God in Central Florida). In addition to starring in the movie, Lawrence will produce with Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver, the production company she started in 2018.

Why Don’t You Love Me? is a mixture of science fiction and dark comedy about married couple Claire and Mark who are unhappy with their relationship, and struggling with their personal and professional lives. That’s when they discover that their reality is not exactly what it seems, and other alternatives may be out there. The graphic novel was published by Drawn & Quarterly in 2023.

Rainey will be an executive producer. The Midsommar filmmaking team of Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Emily Hildner of Square Peg will also produce the movie.
