Last Sunday, I made a bald statement. I heard about Hair for Hope knowing that this platform by CCF Singapore has been around for a long time. I was never brave to be cool enough to dorn a bald look but, as I sat there, knowing that I'm raising funds for the children, I couldn't help but think of the emotional and physical stress that the young patients and parents and caregivers have to go through to manage the illness and its implications like disruption to their family peace, school lives and so much anxiety. What I'm doing is just a tiny part of their big world. And maybe, together we can make a difference. The fund-raising efforts end on 18th of August 2024 and I hope that you can support the children with childhood cancer so that they can survive and make a difference in someone else's live in their future. Our Deputy Head of Secondary, Stephanie Hughes, proudly represented Nexus at the Hair for Hope 2024 Main Event, receiving a token of appreciation for our contributions. Nexus has been a satellite location for Hair for Hope for the past few years. This year, we saw a record number of learners and staff shave their heads in solidarity with children battling cancer, raising over $36,000! At Nexus, our Care Movement shapes everything we do. One of our key pillars is Care: Others, which encourages our community to extend its reach and focus on providing care for others. We are incredibly proud of our community for coming together to support a cause that is so close to our hearts. We are thrilled to share an update regarding our recent participation in the #HairForHope campaign. As one of the satellite partners, Amazon Web Services (AWS) made a significant impact in supporting children with cancer, and we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our collective efforts. Satellite Event Highlights: • Employee Participation: 22 of our dedicated colleagues from Amazon as well as Amazon Web Services (AWS) courageously shaved their heads to show children with cancer that “it’s ok to be bald”. By shaving heads, they are sending a resounding message: it is not our hair that defines us, but our spirit, our resilience and our compassion. Our strength and beauty are found within, not in our appearance. • Company Contribution: AWS InCommunities has donated S$20,000 to this heartfelt cause. • Total Fund Raised: Through the combined efforts of our company, employees and the support of friends and family, we raised total of S$36,153. Award Ceremony: As a testament to our commitment and generosity, Amazon Web Services participated the award ceremony and received a token of appreciation from Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health, along with Ms Peng Hai Ying, the CEO of Children’s Cancer Foundation. Together, we are making a meaningful impact. As a final note, we would like to thank all the shavees, volunteers and builders for their support. Since 2011, Hair for Hope (HfH) – CCF Singapore's flagship fundraiser – has been an annual community affair at #SJIInternational. This year, we are proud to announce that our school community raised over $100k, earning us a gold award at the Hair for Hope 2024 event at VivoCity last week! 🎗️ In June, we held our satellite event, where volunteers made bold statements by bravely shaving their heads in solidarity with cancer patients.
