Designed for the planet and its people.

Our planet provides the resources that make our beautiful products possible, so we take seriously the need to use those resources responsibly and respectfully. By protecting the planet’s limited resources, we can promote the limitless potential of its most abundant and valuable resource: the human resource.

Human Potential

On average, people spend an incredible 90 percent of their time indoors. Interior spaces are where great thinkers innovate, students learn, patients heal, champions train, and families come together. So, we take seriously our responsibility to help make these spaces as comfortable as possible, as dry as possible, as sustainable as possible, and—of course—as beautiful as possible. Why? So that the possibilities of what people can achieve within the confines of four walls or the boundaries of a sports field are limitless!

We are proud to offer our commercial and residential customers around the world the option to enjoy beautiful sustainable products through our diverse brand portfolio that includes: Anderson | Tuftex, COREtec, Floorigami Patcraft, Philadelphia Commercial, Shaw Contract, Shaw Floors, Shaw Sports Turf, Southwest Greens, and more.

Material Health

With Shaw products at the heart of it all, we want our customers to breathe easier knowing we’ve made their well-being a priority in our product design. By staying abreast of best practices in sustainability, placing value on partnerships with other leaders, and engaging third parties to assess our efforts, we ensure accountability and transparency.

Almost 90 percent of the products Shaw makes are Cradle to Cradle Certified®, and our products have the sustainability stamp of approval from GREENGUARD, CRI Green Label Plus, FloorScore, and NSF 140, among numerous others. To further support our transparency efforts, we also maintain Health Product Declarations (HPDs) for all commercial carpet products and Living Building Challenge (LBC) Compliant Declare labels for EcoWorx® tile products.

Product Carbon Footprint

Shaw has been systematically measuring more and more of our products' footprints through comprehensive lifecycle assessments (LCAs) since 2004 and creating Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to share with customers what we know.

Those LCAs have been instrumental in helping us identify the greatest opportunities to further reduce our products' footprints. In fact, we've reduced the embodied carbon footprint of our EcoWorx carpet tile products by more than 60% compared to 2016 - by using our EcoSolution Q100TM fiber. EcoSolution Q100 is a high performance nylon fiber that offers 100% recycled content, allocated from waste minimization and collection efforts.

Product End of Life

In looking for ways to minimize our impact on the planet, we consistently strive to use materials that can most easily return to earth or industry. An industry leader in the reclamation and recycling of end-of-use carpet, Shaw is committed to embracing a more circular economy. Since 2006, we have reclaimed and recycled almost 1 billion pounds of post-consumer carpet.

And we’ve introduced an innovative PET resilient flooring -- made from 40 percent recycled content that can be recycled into new PET resilient flooring at the end of its life. Using 16 recycled bottles per square foot (or 64 recycled bottles per plank), these products contain no plasticizers, chlorine or PVC. Designed for beauty, sustainability and performance, the Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze products have been assessed against rigorous standards for material health, material reutilization, energy, water and social responsibility.

As we continue to drive innovation into our business and look for new solutions to pieces of the puzzle that continue to challenge us, we’re diligently working within our own operations and with industry partners to convert materials historically seen as mere waste into valuable resources. By using what we’ve got, when we can, and using everything respectfully and sparingly, Shaw does its part to protect our planet and promote human potential.

  • Making a sound choice.

Acoustics

Sound affects how we feel, how we work, how we sleep and how we learn. Too much noise can lead to stress, fatigue, lack of focus, anxiety and lengthy healing times.

At Shaw, we extensively researched, tested and patented the award-winning acoustics tool - Sound Advisor - to provide customers with data and a sound file that lets them actually hear the difference between different flooring options. By bringing science-based decision-making to building design, room design and product selection, we empower customers to make the right choice for their needs.

  • Life has its spills.

Moisture

Life has its spills. It’s just a fact of...well...life. But spills and excessive moisture can lead to untenable living, working and learning environments.

Excessive moisture is the number one cause of flooring failures...and it’s expensive. North American commercial property owners spend up to $1 billion each year on remediation of structures, and the replacement of floor coverings as a result of too much moisture in concrete.

Moisture has become a more common problem for three reasons:
  • The industry change to water-based adhesives
  • The popularity of impervious floor covering
  • Accelerated construction schedules

Shaw offers a wide variety of waterproof and water resistant flooring solutions, adhesives, vapor barriers and education for residential and commercial environments -- giving you one less thing to worry about.

Cleanability

The simple and straightforward “wash your hands’’ mantra that we’ve all been hearing since kindergarten and with more frequency and fervency since the beginning of COVID-19 has a lot in common with what we know about the best approach to flooring.

In light of ongoing market interest and confusion regarding cleaning amid COVID-19, that information was distributed to customers throughout 2020.
