The New England Federal Partners (NEFP) is a group of 17 federal agencies formed to work together on complex environmental issues. The group was officially recognized as a partnership by all participating agencies through a Statement of Common Purpose (PDF) in 2010, which established a framework for communication, cooperation, coordination, and collaboration.

Through multiple agency cooperation, the NEFP’s aim is to protect the natural environment and public health and support the needs of states, Tribes, and communities of New England.

Thematic focus areas for the partners over the last seven years include coastal and ocean planning, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and resiliency planning. Accomplishments of the NEFP group include:

• Led the development of the Northeast Ocean Plan approved in December 2016
• Continually adds and updates tools, case studies, and information on climate resilience to the Northeast region section of the U.S. Global Climate Research Program's Climate Resilience Toolkit
• Jointly participated in the 2016 Federal Emergency Management Agency Resilience Seminar
• Consistently participates in conferences, including Tribal leadership and Antioch Climate Solutions
• Contributes to climate roundtables with state officials in Vermont and Maine
• Fosters state and local engagement with the Department of Homeland Security Regional Resiliency Assessment Program
• Coordinates agency activities relating to flooding and the use of the Silver Jackets Program and coastal assessment and management
• Collaborates on inter-agency regional issues such as drought, floods, climate change, sedimentation, and coastal assessment and management
• Conducts quarterly calls and meetings to improve efficiency and effectiveness of federal activities for New Englanders

Moving forward

Members of the NEFP meet in person and virtually each year. The group will continue to focus its attention on issues of concern to the New England region and its states. Per its guiding documents, members of the NEFP will work to communicate and coordinate across federal programs, and to collaborate and cooperate on effective solutions to issues of shared interest.
