Yesterday at our Parliamentary Reception the BVRLA and its partners (Auto Trader UK, NFDA | National Franchised Dealers Association and EVA England) launched our #happyEVafter campaign. It's always challenging to communicate clearly on a complex issue. In this case - weak EV residual values can mean great deals for used vehicles, but they also mean pressure up the chain all the way to new buyers. Used EVs need to be a top focus if Goverment is to meet its ambitious targets for the shift to zero emission vehicles. The used market is where the majority of buyers access vehicles and is far more accessible than the new market. It's where we will make the transition work for everyone. Today, we launched our #happyEVafter campaign in the House of Lords. It is all about setting the used electric vehicle market up for success. Our launch reception brought MPs, industry stakeholders and member representatives together to discuss the issues facing the used EV market and establish where solutions can be found. Addressing attendees, BVRLA Chief Executive Gerry Keaney said: 🎙️ “It has always been the case that vehicles lose more of their value in the first few years. For electric vehicles to date, the early drops have been bigger and deeper than the industry has ever seen.   “Those drops have to be absorbed somewhere. Currently they are being swallowed by the leasing companies and fleet operators that have championed the switch to zero-emission vehicles. That is not sustainable.” 🎙️ Solutions for a sustainable used EV market are outlined in the #happyEVafter campaign document. Created in conjunction with Auto Trader Insight, EVA England, and the NFDA | National Franchised Dealers Association, the solutions span consumer support and financial measures to ensure the long-term health of the EV transition. A fun morning at Cenex Expo today, sharing some of the #HappyEVafter campaign themes we will be launching next week in Parliament. The title of my presentation was ‘Why we should all be worried about the Used EV market’. Judging by the number of questions I fielded, people find it difficult to get their head around the way the condition of the #usedEV market impacts the new one. But once the penny drops, they start sharing our concerns around the urgent need for Government and industry to come together in an attempt restore some stability. If we don’t, then all the superb innovation displayed around this fantastic event will find it a lot harder to get to market…
