Another addition to the #Flue2Chem project. Welcoming Rachel Dunachie who is a communications specialist based in Edinburgh. Rachel's role involves leading on comms and public affairs for Flue2Chem - an Innovate UK-funded consortium of 17 partners including Unilever, SCI® Where Science Meets Business and CCU International - exploring an alternative source of carbon to fossil fuel as an ingredient for household products. Rachel is excited about the trial coming to #Scotland later this year and the level of collaboration between different partners. A very warm welcome to Dr. Mohammad Umair Jamal - Postdoctoral Research Associate in Carbon Capture who joined the #Flue2Chem project in May with the The University of Sheffield. Umair earned his Bachelor's degree at the College of Engineering & Technology in India and then moved to Germany to pursue an environmental engineering masters degree at Hamburg University of Technology. After working as a Junior Researcher for Statista GmbH, Umair returned to academics as a doctoral student at the University of Strathclyde and completed this in December 2023. Upon joining the team, Umair says 'I am proud to be involved in ongoing contributions to the fields of environmental engineering and sustainability'. 🤷🏻 Is there such a thing as Cleaner, Greener, Smarter Steel??? 💡 The overall aim of SUSTAIN (Task 1) is to reduce steelmaking carbon emissions by capturing and converting CO2 into commercially valuable products. 💡 Valuable products made from CO2 will lower the overall cost of carbon capture and sequestration to create virtuous integration between steel and chemicals manufacturing. Our next generation technology was initially developed as a small scale 0.1 t/d mobile capture unit which is being deployed at steelmaking sites so the refined gases can be converted to a number of value-added products including #ethanol, #methanol and #DME for use as synthetic transport fuels. Last week provided a great opportunity to share our #Flue2Chem journey as the technology provider on the project. It has been a great privilege to have been selected as part of this science sector #collaboration taking carbon dioxide (CO2) from industry emissions and recycling this into household detergent ingredients. Equity Energies invited us to Glasgow to present our #NextGeneration technology to a room full of clients, partners and ecosystem supporters. We were also invited by the Stephen Young Institute to speak to MBA students at Strathclyde Business School to present our business journey, our innovation and the Flue2Chem project. London Tech Week - What a week! ✈️ 20 Scottish Companies including CCU International descended upon #London for a ‘Scotland House London Takeover’🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🎟️ It was a sell out for 3 expert Panel Sessions and a ‘Scotch & Pitches’ to showcase scaling Scottish companies and end the week with a dram 🥃 On Monday - We heard from a VC Panel, featuring James Pringle of Mercuri and Daniel Glazer of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. The panel was expertly hosted by our very own CEO Beena Sharma Tuesday - We heard from Mary Lin, CoFounder & Co-CEO of @Odin as she shared her insights on fundraising and her founder journey, hosted by Danielle Shand of Thorntons Law LLP. Wednesday – the Ecosystem Panel & Mixer featured Daniel Sawko of shipshape.vc, Patrycja Maksymowicz of sclr labs, Shosh Shetty of FirstMonday VC & Thim Ventures, Melanie Hayes of Bethnal Green Ventures, and moderated by Phin Mpofu-Masamba II. 🥃 London Tech Week closed with 'Scotch & Pitches' at the Shoreditch Exchange with 200+ guests, whisky from @Ardray Whiskey's (Edrington) Stephanie Peck & of course the pitches! 💡 Throughout the week it was great to be part of the Scottish cohort switching between conference and business, working collaboratively, co-working at Scotland House London and attending other fringe events.
