Über uns

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ending homelessness. Every day we see the devastating impact homelessness has on people’s lives. Every year we work side by side with thousands of homeless people, to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good. Through our pioneering research into the causes and consequences of homelessness and the solutions to it, we know what it will take to end it. Together with others who share our resolve, we bring our knowledge, experience and determination to campaign for the changes that will solve the homelessness crisis once and for all. We bring together a unique volunteer effort each Christmas, to bring warmth, companionship and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year, and offer a starting point out of homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

The combined housing and cost of living crisis is making access to quality, affordable homes in the private rented sector an ever-growing challenge. This is especially true for people facing homelessness. This must change, and we’ve partnered with The TDS Group (TDS), who provide England and Wales’ leading Tenancy Deposit Scheme, to make the private rented sector work better for people facing homelessness. TDS' funding will help us change the way we work with the private rented sector. This includes providing six specialist Housing Access roles to work within local communities across Great Britain to build relationships with landlords and create routes into good quality homes for more of our Crisis members. Good luck London to Edinburgh cyclists!🍀 Tomorrow morning, our CEO, Matt Downie MBE and a group of enthusiastic cyclists will set off for Edinburgh in a 793km ride, all to raise money to help end homelessness. This incredible ride will take seven days and the cyclists will face a total elevation of 7209m! Matt and eight others will be taking on the full challenge while five others will join them for shorter distances along the way. This year’s London to Edinburgh Bike Ride challenge is supported by our friends at Specsavers who are not only sponsoring the event, but three colleagues from stores in Leven, Aberdeen and Richmond will also be joining the seven day challenge to raise funds for Crisis. Thank you Specsavers for your continuous support to end homelessness. Join us in wishing our riders good luck by leaving a message in the comments below!👇 If you would like to show your support, you can make a donation via their Just Giving page: https://bit.ly/46VeNTH

We’ve been struggling to keep up with all the fundraising events this summer at Lloyds Banking Group! LBG colleagues are coming out in their thousands to fundraise for Crisis, helping to end homelessness for good. Here's just a few examples: Over 2,500 LBG colleagues took to the streets and hills of 13 UK cities in June, walking 12 or 20 mile routes which raised over £250,000! 20 people at LBG have cycled 195 miles from London to Paris. And next month, six teams around the country are planning to collectively cycle the circumference of the world in just 24 hours! Next week, 24 colleagues are doing their own triathlon (plus one) in Wales, comprising a 2 mile run, 1km paddle board, 10 mile mountain bike and 4 mile mountain hike. 120 (yes, you read that right!) LBG colleagues are journeying to Morrocco later next month, to climb the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains. Others have volunteered in our London warehouse, taken part in the Birmingham Crisis Cup and the Crisis Charity Golf Day, and the LBG Rainbow Network has hosted an event at Leeds Pride (with a tempting number of cupcakes). These are just some of the countless fundraisers at Lloyds Banking Group which we've seen on LinkedIn! A massive THANK YOU to those who have already completed their events and a huge GOOD LUCK to those who are still in training! ❤️ If you're feeling inspired to give them a boost, here are a few links to their fundraising pages: Alastair and Nat are part of brave gang Cycling the World (love Nat's team name): https://lnkd.in/dkcKcwpq https://lnkd.in/dcGzVYun Craig is climbing Toubkal: https://lnkd.in/dqTWJNHi Sam's doing the triathlon in Wales: https://lnkd.in/dDZMBSDE Happy #FeelgoodFriday!

Local authorities in England are spending a record £2.29bn a year on providing emergency temporary accommodation to homeless households, according to new provisional government figures £2.29 BILLION. Councils and families are paying the price for our repeated failure to build enough social housing. We can’t continue like this. We need to: 📈 Fund councils ✅ Invest in housing benefit 🏡 Build more homes https://lnkd.in/eXrrHufv

    • Graphic with a quote by Matt Downie, CEO of Crisis: "It is unfathomable that councils are spending billions on keeping households homeless in often damp and mouldy temporary accommodation instead of on new homes, all because of a decades-long failure to build the social housing we need."

Rosie is this week's supporter star!⭐ This week's supporter star is Rosie, 8, who recently raised over £500 for Crisis by hosting a bake sale for her neighbours. She tells us more. "I think it is sad that some people don’t have a home and I want to help. Mum said Crisis want to end homelessness too so I want to raise £2000 this year to help give people somewhere to live. "I asked Mum if I could sell cakes on our driveway and we put leaflets through people’s doors to ask them to come. Some people couldn’t come but put money in envelopes through our door. Lots of people did come and really enjoyed the cakes. "We raised £560 and still had cakes left for tea! I want to do a ‘Goalkeeperthon’ in the autumn and lots more sponsored stuff next year to hit my target of £2000." Join us in saying a special thank you to Rosie by leaving a comment below 👇 If you would like to end homelessness, why not fundraise like Rosie? Helping people regain their confidence and mental well-being through art and self-expression is an important part of the support we offer. Agata is a ceramic artist and one of the art tutors at our centre in Croydon. She recently won a GLA commission to create three trophies to be awarded to the London Boroughs of Culture for 2025-27. Since the awards were about community Agata decided to get the local Crisis community involved and our members created the flowers on the trophies in their art classes. The London Borough of Culture followed their progress in this video: https://lnkd.in/e3rZBday
