Diageo’s vision for their new global headquarters was an inclusive and flexible home for their staff. Combined with their desire for a sustainable site, we were the perfect team to design them a bespoke sustainability and inclusion framework. Diageo engaged Cundall from the building search stage to locate, assess and then deliver their new London-based global headquarters. This included a wellness floor, an auditorium and a staff bar. Kevin Hayes, Partner, discusses how the importance of sustainability and wellness for the site impacted the innovativeness of the team. Thanks to GRESB for publishing our latest thought leadership piece by Hannah Morton, Associate Director, and Sam Gardner, Sustainability Consultant, on the evolving landscape of nature impact reporting. As real asset owners, investors, and developers, it’s crucial to recognise not just the risks but also the opportunities that come with nature-related financial disclosures. Our article explores into the framework developed by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and highlights the importance of integrating nature-related opportunities into our sustainability strategies. This shift from traditional risk-focused approaches to a more holistic view can drive significant positive change in our industry. If you would like to continue this important conversation to enhance ESG transparency and industry collaboration, please get in touch with our ESG teams based across the globe. #Sustainability #ESG #NatureImpact #GRESB #ThoughtLeadership

Last month, Gavin Bonner, Head of Data and Digital, sat down with Molly Tooher-Rudd from CIBSE Journal to discuss how AI is starting to influence building services design. Gavin shares the risks of AI alongside how new legislation such as the EU AI Act can help minimise this. Additionally, he talks about how Cundall is implementing AI through a cloud Lakehouse environment, which combines the benefits of large repositories of raw data with organised sets of structured data. The aim of this is to set the company up for effective machine learning across several disciplines. To read the whole article, click below https://lnkd.in/evkSGPEw

Our #WorldGreenBuildingWeek2024 events kicked off today with a webinar in Australia moderated by Oliver Grimaldi. The discussion focused on the relationship between climate change and health, something that affects us in multiple ways, as our poll of the audience showed [see results below]. To protect health and ensure wellbeing, one of the lowest cost measures is ongoing and inclusive conversations with local communities to develop strategies and solutions for #adaptation and #resilience. As Tim Weale, Region Group said, when it comes to improving the buildings that are essential to community life, “it’s not just about the doing – it’s about the listening”. Dr Kate Wylie, Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) explained that when there is effective consultation, listening and conversation, better solutions are achieved that result in “safer, happier and more productive” communities. Dr Sarah Joyce, North Metropolitan Health Service said there is also a need to tap into the generations of expertise of First Nations people, and that adaptation must incorporate the equity lens. Social value is also a key element in a #regenerative approach to bettering the built environment. As Hannah Blossom, Cundall noted, regenerative design teaches us to not just do less bad - it leads us to deeply consider what ‘good’ looks like. We are very grateful to our speakers and to everyone who tuned in for this dynamic and important discussion. #BuildingTheTransition #WGBW24 #BuildingtoCOP29 #CundallCollaborations #ReduceElectrifyAdapt #Health #Wellbeing

Would you believe that this grand music facility was once stables and unused offices? With these stables dating back to the 1850s, and with our desire to achieve DREAM Excellent during our involvement at developed design stage, we pushed the boundaries of sustainable design by including technologies such as rainwater harvesting and heat recovery. Keith Richardson BEng (Dist) MIET, Principal Engineer and Defence Sector Lead, discusses what else we implemented to achieve DREAM Excellent for our design.
