The UK’s construction industry has weathered a stormy period in recent years, leading to caution and hesitancy within the sector. Yet, despite these challenges, a new wave of optimism is beginning to crest, as revealed by Building Magazine’s latest Top 150 Consultants survey. This survey offers an insight into the evolving sentiment within the industry, highlighting both the emerging confidence and the persistent challenges that professionals are navigating. The Top 150 Consultants rankings have also been revealed and we are delighted that we have placed in the top 20, alongside the leading built environment consultants in our industry. Both the rankings and the survey signify sustained growth and resilience within the sector which ultimately is key to building a stronger, more vibrant built environment for the UK. Our chief operating officer for the UK & Europe, Nick Gray, provides a full analysis in his article: https://lnkd.in/eztahwKG

Steven Dixon, director, will be attending the British Council for Offices Regional Conference 2024 in Bristol later this month. Through building tours, the conference will showcase the UK’s best offices in the southwest, both new-build and refurbished. It will highlight the crucial role the built environment plays in supporting Bristol to become carbon-neutral and climate-resilient by 2034, as outlined in their One City Plan. A highlight of this year's conference is the tour of The EQ Building. Winner of this year’s BCO Regional Award 2024 for Best Commercial Workspace - it is Bristol’s first new-build office committed to targeting Net Zero Carbon in operation. Spanning 283,000 sq. ft with some of the largest open-plan office floor plates in the city and enhanced occupant wellbeing, this development will significantly boost Bristol’s economy. We provided consultancy services for three of the five buildings recommended by the BCO. These include cost management services for the EQ Building (https://lnkd.in/eDRabqRn), and the Assembly Building, as well as both cost and project management on One Hundred quayside. This conference is essential for senior industry leaders and will also spotlight the next generation of professionals, fostering a collaborative environment to explore the future of the workplace. If you are attending, Steven looks forward to catching up. Please get in touch to arrange a separate meeting. #BCORegionalConference2024 #Commercial #BCO

Mike Moore, Director of Facilities Management Advisory Services and Mohammed Almalki, FM Consultant (Mechanical), will be at the International Facility Management Conference and Exhibition in Riyadh. Mike will be talking about how good facilities management starts on the drawing board. He believes it’s vital to undertake facilities management design reviews at each stage of the design process Mike will explain how failure to consider facilities management early can lead to issues with the operability or maintainability of the project and drive up the overall whole life cost of the development. At the design stage, the Facilities Manager can give a practical perspective of what works and what doesn’t. As they’re ultimately responsible for the day-to-day management of the development once completed, using their knowledge early can lead to increased efficiencies and cost savings throughout the entire lifecycle of the building. If you’re attending, or you’d like to speak to an expert about the critical role of facilities management in the design stage, please contact Mike. Andy Dedman, Regional Managing Director for London and the South East, will present at The Association of University Directors of Estates (#AUDE) Showcase tomorrow. The topic of discussion is ‘Procurement, Risks and Challenges in the Current Construction Market’. This session will focus on challenges clients face when going to market to procure their projects. We will look at risks faced by clients and contractors and how these are factored into tender prices. With high-profile contractors struggling and the collapse of some large-name M&E firms, the session will explore how this has affected the marketplace and the impact on confidence within financing institutions. The AUDE Showcase is a brand-new concept event for the association, which will highlight the great work of their special interest groups. The Showcase is being held at the University of Nottingham’s East Midlands Conference Centre on 3 September. #Procurement #Education
