CIL’s BP2 Semiconductor Packaging facility accredited to ISO9001:2015, AS9100D and ISO13485:2016 12 months after opening As part of its on-going commitment to quality, in addition to its existing Andover based CIL House and Rennie Gate facilities, CIL has now extended all three quality accreditations to its BP2 Semiconductor Packaging facility. The full audit for ISO9001:2015, AS9100D and ISO13485:2016 is a biennial event with surveillance audits every 12 months, and during the recent full audit, BP2 was successfully added to the scope of all three audits in the first year after opening. And that’s a wrap for APC15FutureBEV project, nearly 4 years of teamwork that brought together vision, ambition and passion. CIL is very proud and grateful to have been able to be a part of it. The @FutureBEV collaboration partners were BMW Group Lyra Electronics Ltd University of Warwick Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult Custom Interconnect Limited Accelerated Technologies for Future Battery Electric Vehicles (@FutureBEV) aimed to create competitive powertrains in function and costs and enable UK technology transformation to zero emission mobility for this Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC 15) project. The result of the project for CIL culminated in the creation of CIL’s BP2, the UK’s largest Semiconductor packaging facility. Custom Interconnect Ltd improves its RAPID PCB Assembly service with a dedicated SMT line In recent months much of CIL’s activities have been concentrated on its Semiconductor Packaging and volume PCB assembly capability from its BP2 facility. However, CIL has also been further developing its CIL House PCBA facility. This includes a dedicated fast track prototype, NPI and small volume PCB assembly line. This RAPID prototype service, offers a 3-5 day standard assembly service from a clean kit of parts. As well as the assembly service, CIL has put in place the quote purchasing and engineering team to assist its customers with this service. For the last 3-4 years CIL has been using one of its 5 off Production SMT lines at CIL House for fast track prototype assembly, but the scheduling of this has become more difficult to achieve when customers are increasing their demand for these 5 SMT production lines. So in April 2024, CIL installed a dedicated DEK Solder printer, MYCRONIC MY700 Ink Jet solder printer, MYCRONIC MY300DX SMT placement machine, 10 zone reflow oven and Quinns AOI Inspection system. As part of the OranGaN project, CIL was very privileged to work with the project partners. CIL's element of the project was centered around the packaging of the RF MMIC devices and utilised high frequency wire bonding and QFN device plastic overmold from its BP2 Semiconductor packaging facility.
