AI can make a real difference to businesses regardless of their size. This is an example of an AI expert system developed for vehicle maintenance and repair technicians. Working from a foundation model containing all relevant documents, the expert system returns answers to natural language queries in a range of formats. https://bit.ly/4bESiU5

This is an interesting read from Paul Roetzer Marketing AI Institute. If academic institutions view AI as a risk to genuine academic achievement, will that colour their views on implementing AI in other areas where it could prove hugely beneficial. #highereducation #AI #HE #Education With organisations like Marketing AI Institute and MMC Learning promoting courses in AI, are there glimpses of hope, or is the integration of AI with education a tough nut to crack? Any educators out there care to share their thoughts on this?

I expect AI in schools to be a hot topic as the academic year gets underway. Will schools embrace AI as a learning tool, or will academic leaders see it as a shortcut and categorize the use of generative AI as plagiarism and cheating? Or, will they land somewhere in between and let individual teachers—who may not understand AI themselves—decide if and how AI can be used in their classrooms? My kids are 11 and 12. I teach them how to responsibly use Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini as research assistants and creative collaborators. I see generative AI as a way to personalize their learning, and accelerate their knowledge and capabilities. They use the tools to explain complex topics in simple ways so they can deepen their understanding; conduct research, while learning how to evaluate and verify sources; create imaginary characters for stories, and visualize those characters with image generation; and experiment with emerging technologies like video generation, so they are aware of what’s to come. I constantly remind them: “These tools are never a replacement for your own imagination, creativity, or critical thinking.” And, as a parent, I use the same tools as homework aids to revisit math, science, and writing concepts I’ve long since forgotten. Omnipresent AI will be their reality. Students today in middle school, high school, and college will never know a professional world in which AI isn’t infused into everything they do, regardless of the career path they choose. But, most school leaders are still unsure how to handle AI in policy and practice. I believe the key is to teach the teachers. We need a sense of urgency to empower teachers at all levels to integrate AI technology into curriculum and experiences, with the proper guardrails / policies that give students the freedom to experiment and innovate. Accelerating AI literacy at all levels will lead to greater comprehension, competency, and responsible use of the technology. If your kid's school isn’t being proactive about AI education and technology in the classroom, then take the initiative now to start preparing them yourself for the future of work. Note: If you're a parent teaching your kids how to use AI responsibly, please share tips and lessons learned in the comments.
