About us

KeolisAmey Docklands, a joint venture between Keolis and Amey, was awarded the franchise to operate and maintain the DLR on behalf of Transport for London. The franchise is focused on boosting services and implementing a series of service improvements to make journeys better for passengers. This means cleaner trains and stations, more reliable lifts and escalators, more efficient and reliable station maintenance and faster passenger journeys. The network’s current 99 per cent reliability record will also be maintained – ensuring it remains one of the best performing railways in the UK. The DLR began operating in 1987, with 11 trains serving 15 stations and in its first year of operation it carried 6.7m people. Today the railway – which is entirely step-free - has 45 stations, 40km of double track and 149 carriages and during the 2018/19 year, it carried 122m passengers. KeolisAmey Docklands became the operator of the network on 7 December 2014 under a seven year franchise agreement. This has now been extended to 31 March 2025. We are dedicated to ensuring that every journey matters for our customers and that we are providing them with the best possible travel experience. We recognise that our people are our greatest asset and we value and celebrate the great passion and experience they have in operating and maintaining the DLR safely. We encourage all our people to 'think like a customer' and put them first in delivering service excellence every day in everything we do. Our hard work and commitment has led to recognition within the industry on a local, national and international level, with 10 awards to date, including Operator of the Year (2019 Global Light Rail Awards), Train Operator of the Year (2019 Rail Business Awards) and Rail Operator of the Year (2018 London Transport Awards). Celebrating Secure Station Accreditation! 🚉🎉 Last month, KAD proudly celebrate two decades of Secure Station Accreditation on the DLR network. This prestigious certification recognises railway stations that meet the highest standards of security and safety. Achieving this accreditation ensures our stations implement effective measures to reduce crime and enhance the safety and confidence of both passengers and staff. These measures include surveillance, good lighting, clear signage, and a regular staff presence, among other security features. The journey of Secure Station Accreditation on the DLR began in 2004 with 12 stations achieving accreditation. By 2015 under the KeolisAmey Docklands franchise, all 45 DLR stations were accredited. This year, we have successfully passed re-accreditation for all 45 stations, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to providing a safe and secure railway for everyone. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to maintaining these high standards. Here’s to continuing our mission of safety and excellence! #SecureStation #SafetyFirst #RailwaySafety #CommitmentToExcellence

Celebrating collaborative working with our PTA 🚉🤝✨ The teams from Docklands Light Railway Limited (DLRL) and KeolisAmey Docklands (KAD) today held our annual joint collaboration workshop. Our collaborative relationship has been a central theme of our franchise, and these workshops provide an excellent opportunity to unite as one team and explore ways to enhance our service excellence for passengers and local communities. Hosted by Tom Page from DLRL and Richard Graham from KAD, the event was a valuable and engaging afternoon with over 80 attendees from both organisations. A special thank you to Martin Taylor, Head of Strategy at Transport for London, for joining us and sharing TfL's future strategies on customers, colleagues, safety & security, environmental, and economic growth. Together, we reviewed collaborative initiatives delivered over the past year including Access DLR assisted travel trial, depot extension works and the opening of the London City Airport DLR station information centre. The session showcased the power of collaboration and reinforced our commitment to a strong working relationship. #Collaboration #KAD #DLR #Partnerships

A particularly special 'Track in Time' today, reflecting on the pivotal developments that shaped the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). The inception of the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) in July 1981 marked a transformative era for the Docklands. Tasked with revitalising the area, the LDDC's need for an efficient and economical public transport solution led London Transport to explore various light rail systems. The culmination of these efforts was spectacularly marked by Queen Elizabeth II's grand opening of the DLR on July 30, 1987. This momentous day set the stage for the official launch of passenger services on August 31, 1987. #dlr #trackintime #uktram #DLR #lightrail #london #tfl #publictransport #rapidtransit #lrt KeolisAmey Docklands Image: Transport for London - https://shorturl.at/9qoXv

#EmployeeFeature with Jonathan Bray Our journey of a decade would not have been possible without an extraordinary team. Jonathan Bray, our Head of Infrastructure has been with us on the KAD franchise for 6 years. Read about his reflections on our 10 year journey: “I joined KAD around 6 years ago as the Civil Engineer and I am now the Head of Infrastructure responsible for the maintenance of all the civil, premises and track assets. On joining I was immediately impressed with the depth of experience and professionalism of the engineering team at KAD. The team have been instrumental in supporting KAD with delivering the exceptional levels of performance and reliability of the DLR network over the course of the franchise in close collaboration with our client DLR (TfL). Throughout this franchise the KAD team have always pushed to improve the efficiency and quality of maintenance delivery. Some of the highlights for me during this time have been: the introduction of rail head milling as a more productive way to manage rail condition, certification (and subsequent recertifications) of the organisation to ISO 55001 the international asset management standard, the successful incorporation of the DLR Lewisham extension staff and assets into the franchise in 2021, the work our teams are doing supporting DLR with the introduction of their new train fleet and the ongoing professional development of our staff through a mix of technical and management training like our various leadership development programmes. One of the benefits of working at KAD is that it’s a relatively small organisation and all the various parts of the business know each other and work well together. This brings our engineers closer to our service delivery operation and vice versa. It is great to see members of our engineering team joining with our Communities Team as they go out to the local schools and colleges in the area to talk about the engineering on the DLR. For young people it is important seeing role models so hopefully this will help to inspire the next generation of railway engineers.”
