🚨 Improving trust in journalism will require “greater visibility, transparency, and public engagement” to achieve a more effective level of press regulation. That is according to new research from the Universities of Leeds and Derby. The study, which was supported by Impress, saw Professor Julie Firmstone and Professor John Steel carry out eight focus group sessions with a total of 44 participants, and uncovered a lack of trust in the news media and a need to boost knowledge levels regarding how regulatory processes work. “Our study highlights the need for news organisations and regulators to have a more visible and meaningful engagement with the public and to take note of their suggestions for addressing the challenges of declining trust in news," the researchers said. “In order to deliver on our climate obligations we have to look at better ways of managing how our transport systems work and connect with each other." - Professor Greg Marsden, co-investigator of the TransiT hub. Using a ‘digital twin’ approach, where digital replicas of the physical world are created with real-time data, TransiT will identify the lowest cost, least risky and most energy-efficient way to decarbonise transport in the UK. The data is collected by sensors connected to real-world infrastructure like motorway, railway, shipping or flight monitoring systems ✈️🚗 The project is a collaboration of 8 universities and 67 partners, including University of Leeds researchers Professor Greg Marsden, Professor Kate Pangbourne and Professor Simon Shepherd from the Institute of Transport Studies.   It's one of the largest transport consortiums of its kind and has secured £46 million in funding from the EPSRC and industry partners!   Read more about the TransiT hub 🌍👇 https://lnkd.in/esUWgRDD
