Kudos to the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford, which has launched EIT Pathogena, a genomic analysis tool licensed by Oxford University Innovation and developed at the University of Oxford. Built using cutting-edge cloud technology, EIT Pathogena helps researchers understand bacteria like Mycobacterium tuberculosis by analysing their genetic material. This powerful tool provides crucial insights for detecting outbreaks, identifying bacterial species, and predicting drug resistance. More on quantum from Oxford Ionics - we’re working to build support for this burgeoning sector in our ecosystem and thank our OIS and University of Oxford, Oxford University Innovation spinout, investment and ecosystem partners for helping us make this happen 👇
Quantum has been part of the fourth industrial revolution and we're proud to be supporting this at Oxford University Innovation. Oxford spinout Oxford Ionics, a leader in trapped-ion #quantumcomputing, today announced it has set a new record in quantum state preparation and measurement (SPAM). The results, experimentally implemented at the University of Oxford, Department of Physics has been pre-published in Arxiv earlier this week, demonstrate the highest recorded SPAM fidelities of any quantum computing platform at 99.9993%. These results are a positive step towards overcoming one of the major hurdles - error rates - currently holding back the scale-up and commercialisation of quantum computers.👇 https://lnkd.in/eu6aTGjx Shout out to: Ana Sotirova | Chris Ballance | Thomas Harty and the team at Oxford Ionics.

We raised a glass to toast the latest $170 million series B raise by Beacon Therapeutics and Robert MacLaren’s team at the University of Oxford who recently secured a partnership with Forbion, Oxford Science Enterprises, TCGX and Advent Life Sciences to develop Ophthalmic Gene Therapies for retinal eye diseases, including clinical development of Oxford’s pre-clinical asset targeting cone-rod dystrophy (CRD) which is caused by a null mutation in the Cadherin Related Family Member 1 (CDHR1) gene. The program has been licensed from the laboratory of Professor MacLaren, Professor of Ophthalmology University of Oxford, NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Thanks to our Vice Chancellor Irene Tracey for her show of support for this achievement and recognition for Oxford University Innovation’s efforts to enable the creation of spinouts from Oxford. More news on this soon - for now, discover more on Beacon’s inception https://lnkd.in/e_vSzuCC Thanks to OUI team Robert Fishleigh | Benedicte Menn | Kerry Antcliffe | Adam Workman and many more.

Congratulations to University of Oxford spinout Theolytics! The company has secured £2m in funding from Innovate UK’s Transforming Cancer Therapeutics Grant. This funding will support Theolytics' Phase 1 clinical trial of THEO-260, an innovative ovarian cancer treatment. The trial will also include studies to demonstrate how THEO-260 effectively kills cancer cells and enhances the immune system's ability to fight the disease. This non-dilutive funding complements the £19m Theolytics raised earlier this year from a group of investors including M Ventures , Taiho Ventures, Epidarex Capital, Oxford Science Enterprises, Sound Bioventures, and Oxford University Innovation. Oxford Ionics, a spinout from the University of Oxford, Department of Physics is leading the charge in quantum computing. Co-founded by Dr Chris Ballance and Dr Thomas Harty, the company is pioneering the use of trapped ions as qubits, a technology with the potential to revolutionise industries ranging from materials production to drug development. This groundbreaking journey started with the support of Oxford University Innovation, the university’s technology transfer office, which helped transform cutting-edge research into a thriving company. Recently, Oxford Ionics secured a £6m contract to supply a state-of-the-art quantum computer to the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) in Harwell, Oxfordshire. Scientists at NQCC will use the computer, nicknamed ‘Quartet’, to carry out research and develop new applications.
