While studying the performance of our qubit readout technology at microwave frequencies, we bumped into a very fundamental phenomenon never observed in semiconductor quantum dots: the dressing of the orbital state of a single quantum dot by the photonic microwave field. https://lnkd.in/dfUXvXCJ You may ask (i) what is dressing and (ii) what is this good for? (i) Light dressed states are hybrid quantum states between photons and the original quantum system subject to the photonic excitation. (ii) This findings allows us to fully and quickly characterise all electrostatic properties of these quantum dot based readout sensors. Besides the data look beautiful. Integrating classical electronics alongside quantum devices in silicon offers the possibility of building truly scalable quantum computers. However, to ensure these hybrid chips succeed, we need to understand how the power dissipated by classical electronics, may affect the qubit devices located in close proximity. Our work, published in Chip, led by Quantum Engineer and UCL Quantum PhD student Mathieu de Kruijf, describes a method to accurately monitor the impact of dissipated power on qubit devices. The method provides a way to determine the available power budget at a distance from a solid-state quantum processor and indicate under which conditions cryoelectronics circuits may allow the operation of hybrid quantum-classical systems. These findings allow us to understand how these different devices interact and how their placement will affect the operation of our chips. These results will help us develop new designs for our industrially developed hybrid quantum-classical chips. IQT Nordics Helsinki in a nutshell. 🌰 🇫🇮 🤔 Opinions on quantum computing remain divided, with some expressing optimism and others pessimism, as mentioned by Lawrence Gasman during his Market Outlook presentation. However, with ongoing advancements, I am now convinced that scaling quantum computers for practical applications is around the corner. • Jerry M. Chow presented IBM’s roadmap, highlighting the benefits of quantum computing even before achieving fault-tolerance. He focused on advances such as quantum chip interconnects and LDPC codes. • James Palles-Dimmock, CEO of Quantum Motion, captivated us with his company’s innovative CMOS approach. Their technique involves modifying transistors to act as spin qubits by controlling temperature and voltage while keeping only one electron under the gate. They are collaborating with imec and GlobalFoundries. • Ashley Montanaro of Phasecraft presented their breakthrough hybrid quantum/classical algorithm called quantum-enhanced Density Functional Theory (QEDFT), which has demonstrated speed improvements of up to a million times over current best practices! • In addition, Netanel Lindner of QEDMA Quantum Computing discussed their progress in quantum error suppression and error mitigation (QESEM). • Similarly, Andre Carvalho highlighted Q-CTRL’s significant contributions to effective error suppression in quantum systems, reinforcing the notion that the quantum advantage is at hand. • Last but not least, Sabrina Maniscalco from Algorithmiq discussed the integration of quantum computing (Q), artificial intelligence (AI) and network medicine to develop new solutions.
