Advertising must entertain for commercial gain. Marketers don't talk about audio ads enough, so I'm sharing my favourite chart from System1 and Radiocentre's research into what makes effective audio ads. Using data from over 50,000 radio listeners and 10 years of UK radio campaigns with System1's Test Your Ad Audio - we pinpointed what creative features build more memory structures and emotions per media impression. Repeating Orlando Wood's findings with TV, we showed that ads with more entertaining features build more positive memory structures. Whenever I cycle past cars in London, I have to laugh. Most radio ads are screaming at people begging for a purchase. That's not the way to do it.
