In our latest feature in the New Civil Engineer, we were pleased to share details of the launch of the Concrete Decarbonisation Accelerator Programme on 11 June at the ICE’s London headquarters. As the article highlights, the Accelerator, led by National Highways and joined by nine other major infrastructure organisations, harnesses the collective power of our members to drive substantial reductions in the carbon impact of concrete. This involves sharing knowledge about low-carbon concrete solutions, collaborative alignment with commitments like benchmarking carbon reduction pathways and embedding low-carbon requirements into projects, and using data analysis to influence concrete demand. Set to transform our approach to reducing the carbon footprint of concrete, a major contributor to global emissions, this initiative underscores our commitment to achieving the UK government’s 2050 net-zero targets and fostering a sustainable future for the construction sector.
