Mental (Behavioral) Health
Everyone reacts to stress and traumatic experiences differently. While some have reactions that can be seen as normal responses to life events, others may experience signs or symptoms of more serious conditions.
Mental health and substance use conditions can affect anyone;
you are not alone. The Military Health System has many resources available to help those who need it.

Whiteman AFB Mental (Behavioral) Health Services
Our facility offers the following mental and behavioral health services:
- Individual counseling
- Group therapy
- Educational classes
- Psychological testing
- Psychiatry/medications
- Command consultations
- Disaster mental health response
Who We Serve
Active duty service members and National Guard or Reserve members on extended active duty orders can be seen in the Mental Health Clinic at Whiteman AFB.
Members may access mental health services through referral by their Primary Care Manager team or by self-referring. All service members will be assessed and vectored to the most appropriate resource for care, including (but not limited to) the Mental Health Clinic, Military OneSource, Military Family Life Counselors, chaplains, or Primary Care Behavioral Health. Barring special circumstances, all mental health care is considered voluntary.
Substance Use Disorder Services
The primary objective of the Whiteman Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment program is to promote readiness, health and wellness through the prevention and treatment of substance misuse, and to minimize the negative consequences of substance misuse to the individual, family, and organization.
ADAPT provides services primarily to active duty service members and National Guard or Reserve members on extended active duty orders.
Our facility offers the following substance use services:
- Population-based educational outreach
- Preventive brief counseling
- Evidenced-based outpatient treatment
- Referral for inpatient detoxification/treatment
Warning signs of problematic substance use:
- Negative impact on relationships with friends and/or family
- Used to cope with stress or mood
- Decreased work or school performance
- Loss of memory
- Health problems
- Legal problems
- Drinking more alcohol than planned
- Frequent hangovers
- Planning activities around alcohol use
- Difficulty refraining from drinking

What TRICARE Covers
Non-Active-Duty TRICARE Beneficiaries
TRICARE covers medically and psychologically necessary mental health and substance use care. This includes both inpatient and outpatient care. Non-active-duty TRICARE Prime beneficiaries may be seen by a network psychiatrist or psychologist without referral/prior authorization. TRICARE covers medically and psychologically necessary mental health and substance use care. This includes both inpatient and outpatient care.
