1 dead, 2 injured from triple shooting in Saginaw Township

Dennis Christopher Mayes Jr. was shot and killed on Mackinaw Road in Saginaw Township late Wednesday evening.

Police confirmed that one person died and two others were injured in a triple shooting on Mackinaw Road late Wednesday.

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - One person is dead and two others were injured from a triple shooting on Mackinaw Road in Saginaw Township late Wednesday.

The Saginaw Township Police Department responded to a residence hit by gunfire in the 4800 block of Mackinaw Road between McCarty and Shattuck roads shortly after 10 p.m.

Officers later learned that a vehicle was stopped in the road with its doors open.

The driver, 24-year-old Dennis Christopher Mayes Jr., was found dead in the vehicle with gunshot wounds. A 15-year-old boy, who police did not identify, was found in the back seat suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

An ambulance rushed the teen to an area hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Thursday morning after an emergency surgery.

Police found a third occupant from the vehicle, who fled the scene before police arrived, in a nearby neighborhood a short time later. Police arrested him on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

A family was inside the residence where the gunshots initially were reported. The bullets penetrated the walls and nearly hit them inside, but they did not report any physical injuries.

Investigators believe a second 15-year-old boy, who was at a nearby residence, was responsible for the shooting. Police arrested him on a charge of open murder.

The suspect, who police did not identify, was taken to the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center to await arraignment on formal charges in court.

The Saginaw Township Police Department and other agencies remained on the scene until 7 a.m. Thursday.
