Most of the students at the schools will attend Saginaw United

SAGINAW, Mich. (WJRT) - It's the end of an era for Saginaw Public Schools.

School is out for summer, and it's really out for the high schools known as the Hill and the High.

It was an emotional day for some, though kids were celebrating being on summer break.

But for the parents, some sadness, and they are hoping their students at both schools will be able to adjust to the new Saginaw United.

"Kind of sad, both of my kids graduated from here," says Stefanie Koebke.

"I couldn't ask for a better school right here, Arthur Hill," says Arthur Hill Junior Terry Bill.

Next year, this building will host Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy students.

High school students walking out for the last time will most likely attend the new Saginaw United, currently under construction.

"I am looking forward to the new school," says Arthur Hill freshman LaKayla McCall. "I think it's going to be real fancy, like real professional, like real clean."

Jennifer Benavides was picking up her son for the last day at the Hill, who is looking forward to a change.

"He says it's hot inside the school, there is not much A.C.," says Benavides. "It's an old building. I remember coming here in high school."

"A lot of people crying. It was so sad," says Jayla Collins, who spent her last day at Arthur Hill. "I don't know if I am going to the new school. I might go to Heritage."

"It's really a bittersweet moment for me," says Kahlease Watson.

It was also the last day of classes at Saginaw High School.

Triplets Kahlease, Tyrese and Tyri Watson got a picture in front of the school sign.

"I am going to miss it," says Kahlease. "But I am very excited for Saginaw United."

"They got new everything, new building," says Tyri. "It looks futuristic. It looks more modern."

Tiffany Nickleberry watched her son participate in the last graduation at Saginaw High, and while her daughter will attend the new school, Tiffany will keep the past with her.

"I will always be a Trojan," she says. "True at heart. Yes, Trojan, 1984, 40 years."

Saginaw High will be a middle school next year.

An era is ending in Saginaw, but with it comes anticipation for a new educational era to begin.

"I will be part of the first graduating class of Saginaw United," says Terry Bill. "So I am looking forward to that."

"They are on to a new adventure, so we will see how the new school goes," says Stefanie Koebke.
