Three girls ages 11 and 12 admitted to eat cannabis gummies at McMonagle Elementary School in Mt. Morris Township.

MT. MORRIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - Three girls received treatment after police say they consumed cannabis gummies at McMonagle Elementary School and got high.

The Mt. Morris Township Police Department says all three girls ages 11 and 12 were lethargic and appeared to be "out of it" when officers arrived to investigate on Tuesday. Authorities determined the girls were high.

School officials contacted the girls' parents and they went to Hurley Medical Center for precautionary examinations. Police did not say whether the girls will suffer any lasting effects.

All three girls admitted to eating cannabis gummies at school. Investigators could not determine how much cannabis the girls consumed and whether the gummies were homemade or sold in a store.

Police say the girls claimed they received cannabis from another female student, but that student denied any knowledge of the situation when police questioned her. Authorities searched her items at school and didn't find any cannabis products.

The Mt. Morris Township Police Department will continue investigating where the girls obtained the cannabis gummies and how much they ate.

Family members say the two 12-year-old girls who ate gummies were suspended while the investigation continues. The 11-year-old who ate gummies was not suspended, however.

McMonagle Elementary School is part of the Westwood Heights School District. Spokesman Jamal Bransford sent the following statement about the incident:
