City of Flint offering water tours on Wednesday and Thursday

With this week being the anniversary of the Flint Water Crisis, the city is marking the anniversary by opening the doors of its upgraded water facilities.

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - With this week being the anniversary of the Flint Water Crisis, the city is marking the anniversary by opening the doors of its upgraded water facilities.

Tours will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and it will allow Flint residents to see some of the renovations to the water plant, dort pump station, chemical feed building and water tower.

Flint water plant staff will lead the tours and answer questions on Wednesday and Thursday, the anniversary of the switch of Flint's water source, and beginning the water crisis. 

Each tour will take about 15 minutes. Each tour will be limited to 20 people because of the limited space inside the facility.

A number of other events are being held to remember the event and update residents about the settlement and ongoing pipe replacement.

A public march with speakers will be held on April 25. The gatherings begin at 11 a.m. at the People's Church of Flint on Garland Street. Beginning at noon, the march to Flint City Hall will begin.

A Solidarity Forum will be on Thusday from 6-8 p.m. at the UAW Local 659 on Van Slyke Road. There will be speaker from the Genesee County Coalition for Clean water, Detroit, Benton Harbor, Three Rivers and Highland Park.

On Friday there will be a vigil, testimonies and a healing ceremony from 6-8 p.m. at the People's Church of Flint on Garland Street. Attendees are asked to bring photos to honor those who lost their lives due to the crisis.

On Saturday there will be a community resources fair and legal update from 2-4 p.m. at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library on Kearsley Street. There wll be a resource table and a presentation with updates on the class action lawsuit settlement and pipe replacement.
