Several events are planned around Flint on Thursday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Flint water crisis.

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - A number of other events are planned Thursday to remember the Flint water crisis, update residents about the settlement and discuss progress on water pipe replacement.

Thursday marks the 10th anniversary of when Flint disconnected from Detroit's municipal water system and began drawing drinking water from the Flint River.

The more corrosive river water was not treated properly, which allowed it to eat away the protective lining inside water pipes. That allowed particles from lead-based water services lines to flake off and enter the water supply in homes across the city.

Organizers are planning a public march with speakers beginning at 11 a.m. at the People's Church of Flint on Garland Street. The event will send with a march to Flint City Hall, where a rally will take place.

A Solidarity Forum is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the UAW Local 659 Hall at 4549 VanSlyke Road.

Events will continue Friday with a vigil and healing ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. at the People's Church of Flint on Garland Street. People will be allowed to share their testimonies during the event.

The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library is hosting a community resources fair and legal update for people affected by the water crisis from 2 to 4 p.m. The library is located on Kearsley Street in the Flint Cultural Center.
