GRAND BLANC, Mich. (WJRT) - A 64-year-old woman sustained major injuries and her dog died after they were hit by a car while crossing Grand Blanc Road on Monday afternoon.

The Grand Blanc City Police Department says the woman, who investigators did not identify, was crossing Grand Blanc Road with her dog near Davis Street when a 72-year-old man from Grand Blanc hit them with his car.

The woman sustained major head injuries and an ambulance rushed her to Hurley Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday morning. Her dog was pronounced dead.

Police say the 72-year-old driver stopped to render aid after the crash and has been cooperating with investigators. They don't believe he was intoxicated when the crash happened.

The Crash Investigation and Reconstruction Team closed the intersection of Grand Blanc Road and Davis Street to collect evidence. Reports on the crash will be forwarded to the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office.
