James and Jennifer Crumbley sent to separate Michigan prisons

James and Jennifer Crumbley

James and Jennifer Crumbley started serving their 10 to 15-year prison sentences with the Michigan Department of Corrections last week.

OXFORD, Mich. (WJRT) - James and Jennifer Crumbley are wards of the Michigan Department of Corrections a week after they received prison sentences for the Oxford High School shooting.

Michigan prison records show the parents of shooter Ethan Crumbley left the Oakland County Jail late last week and went to separate Michigan prisons.

James Crumbley, 47, was sent to the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson, where all adult male inmates begin their stay. He will receive an orientation to Michigan's prison system before being transferred to another facility.

Jennifer Crumbley, 46, began serving her sentence at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, where all female prison inmates in Michigan are housed.

James and Jennifer Crumbley each received 10 to 15-year prison sentence after separate Oakland County Circuit Court juries convicted them on four counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deadly shooting at Oxford High School on Nov. 30, 2021.

Their son, 17-year-old Ethan Crumbley, pulled a handgun out of his backpack and opened fire inside the school. Four students died while six other students and a teacher were injured.

Prosecutors say James and Jennifer Crumbley purchased the murder weapon for their son, failed to secure it properly and failed to properly care for their son's mental health needs.

The couple denied responsibility for the shooting during their respective trials.

Ethan Crumbley pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder, terrorism causing death and other charges. He received a sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole.

Ethan continues serving his prison sentence at the Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer, where teenage offenders are housed after being convicted of adult charges.
